Very few reviews provide purchase price in their reviews. It's an outstanding means for comparison and determine spot market prices. Did you get a great deal or were you a victim to price gouging? Make sure your region is added. What do you think?

I think that's a great idea but not just for reviews. Put the price in release threads or any thread based on a particular beer.

    Founder's Palm Reader...$9.99
    Bell's Oatsmobile...$10.99
    Short's Melt My Brain...$10.99
    Tapistry Peck's Porter(4 pack pints)...$8.99
    Perrin No Rules bomber...$16.99
Rochester Mills Blueberry Pancake Stout(4 pack pints)...$9.99
Blatz 12 ounce bottles...50ยข each

Just saying, but if price is that important to somebody, buy the Blatz.

I don't think its an awful idea, however, some people (including myself) don't look at the price when they buy. If I see something i want I just go ahead and buy it.

Great idea. When I'm out of town or looking to trade for something I often have zero clue what the general going rate is. Having an easy resource would be great, but I'm not holding my breath for people to start including it in reviews.

Very few reviews provide how long you stood in line in their reviews. Or how many stores you had to stop at to find a complete 4 pack. It's an outstanding means for comparison and can determine if you wasted half a day of your life over a good beer or not. Did you camp out for a infected beer? Make sure your region is added. What do you think?

The price shouldn't affect the ratings, but I wouldn't be against price being put in the discription.

I try to keep track (mostly unsuccessfully) of how much I pay for beer, and when I remember/can, do so note the bottle price in my beer log book, and while I'm happy to share ( i.e. bought Prarie Bomb! at Jester King Brewery's bottle shop for $9.99/bottle on Saturday, saw it at Whole Foods for $7.99 downtown Austin on Sunday...), I'm a little hesitant to put in a review, etc. what the beer (wine, meal, etc.) cost, although I do see it in, for instance, many restaurant reviews. Very interested to read what others think of OP's suggestion as I travel a lot and I do have a first hand appreciation of what beers cost in different states/cities in this country, as well as a few other countries... Cheers!

I find it interesting when prices are included in a written review, but I don't find it necessary. As far as ratings go, though, I always factor my perceived value in when determining the "overall" score.

I think it is fine if people want to put it in their reviews but I'm opposed to requiring it or even strongly suggesting it - there are some many factors that go into price and many folks will have no idea what pricing is like in other cities/states. Also, draft/bottles purchased at restaurants/bars are not reliable ways to look at pricing as there are a lot of other factors (should people factor in the tip amount?).

Personally it is not a big deal for me as I purchase the beers that interest me and stay within a budget. I know which stores somewhat local to me are better and worse on price, and have noted that in my reviews of the places.

Only in America could there be a debate over knowing the price of a product before purchasing. People are really over thinking this

No. It's a legit question if you trade & have no idea whether something might be $4 or $20. And I'm pretty sure Canadian traders I know feel the same way.

I think you may have misunderstood my comment. I am all for people posting prices in reviews or threads, see comment #2 above. I'm all for getting a good deal or fair deal.

Personally what I want to know from a review is the sensory qualities of the beer and I'd prefer that the ratings not include or reflect price or perceived value. This is both because of the national variability in pricing and because value is a highly personal judgment that I don't want made for me by someone else.

Basically price and/or value is something I care about only when looking at the bottle on the shelf or the case of beer sitting there in front of me when I am deciding for myself if it is a good buy.

Nobody is making a personal judgment for you by providing the price which they paid for beer. They're just providing information

Yes but more than one person in threads on this topic have said that they factor value into their ratings. So they are. I've no concerns about listing the price.

Some people will continue to factor value into their ratings whether the price is visible or not. I don't think the OPs point of this thread is to influence ratings based on value, it's more about getting a ballpark figure of what people are paying for beer...especially new stuff we've not yet purchased

    Also, I don't rate beer by it's price...if it's good it's good

Yep, not rating by price is my own approach as well and I actually do my purchasing/record keeping in such a way that I mostly couldn't tell you if asked what I paid for in the fridge or basement. :-)

Yes, some will continue to fcator value in to their ratings and I'll continue to not be happy with it and to try to pay less attention to those reviews.

I don't care much one way or the other if people take the time to list price in their comments, but have personally found that it is in fact not particularly useful since I can easily find a ball park estimate of what the beer will cost me locally so what you might pay for it in MI or what someone out in WA pays for it doesn't provide me with any useful information.

People could(but probably won't) put their state abbreviation after the price

Yes they could, but I agree they probably wouldn't.

Honestly, given the number of folks who don't get beer styles right when they create a new beer entry for the site, or who create duplicate entries for beers already in the database, I'm not all that optimistic the information would be particularly reliable.
