That place is outstanding for a dive bar, and frankly I like the food better than Surly. $3 pints of BA Sill? Yes please.

Correct, the food at Turtles is better than the food at Surly!

Eh, there are non-Surly breweries charging $6-7 per beer. If anyone has earned the right to charge $5.50 a pint for IPA it's them.

I've heard all the food at Turtle's got infected from being too close to the bourbon county though, so probably best to just avoid it.. :stuck_out_tongue:

If this is true, I will schedule an evening at Turtles, because the food in the Surly Beer Hall is wonderful.

Yes true, there are other breweries that charge to much also. Surly has done a lot, but they are also big enough that they don't need to charge what they do for some things.
They have all earned the right to charge whatever they want, some mainly Surly just don't get my money.

Just saying they have done a lot for the movement. They have a lot of loyal followers willing to pay, I am just not one of them.

Also consider that Surly is is medium-large size employer that has full time employees earning competitive wages, health, retirement, vaca, etc. in a state that's becoming more and more hostile, or at the very least, more costly, to these very types of businesses. All the while their "competition" pays cash, min-wage, no benefits, etc. to their employees.

I'm no fanboy, but I can understand and appreciate these business decisions. If you can get a cheaper pint down the block - go down the damn block. Sometimes things really are that simple.

Well, they earned the right by opening and maintaining a business. They can charge whatever they want. Customers can then choose to go there or not.

Yeah, this is me. If your beer is amazing I'll pay a premium to get it, but with so much available beer I'm not going to $6 a pint for OK beer.

If one specific thing that you MIGHT be hinting at actually happened, this midwest forum would absolutely explode!

(But, I don't see that happening...)

Schedule a Monday, to get the burger and MN beer deal. Otherwise, Wednesday has $5 10 in cheese pizza.
Checkout their website for beer list and nightly deals.
If it's not a far drive, it will be worth it. The food may not be as good as Surly, but price/ taste are equal. $5 burger v $12 burger...

You mean $5 vs $13 dollar burger... Yes a burger at Surly is now $13 bucks!

I love a good, crispy tot. Maybe you & I & the bears-man can get together there sometime in the next few weeks on a Monday. I'll check my social calendar.

The Surly Beer Hall is (nearly) always packed with long wait times. The food is highly regarded and also in high demand.

Sounds to me like raising prices was the correct business decision.

I approve this message. Invite @mrpeterandthepuffers as well. He was kind enough to introduce me to that place.
