I've probably done this dozens of times without realizing it.

I mainly drink local except a new release that interests me. We're getting much better here.

Well someone already made a point that some NJ beers (Carton) are brewed in MA. does that make them local? yes.. no??

I can go about 15 miles in 3 directions and be in different states and DC... is that local to where I live? What about 100 mile radius... bigger? is that local...?

Some don't think so, some do... A beer made 100 miles from me isn't local to me in Maryland... New Jersey is a pretty big state also... so it all depends. There's no right answer I am just more curious about the original posters mindset and what they consider local.

The OP defines local as his home state New Jersey. As for drinking a beer brewed in one state but sold in a different state, personally, I'd define it's locality as being where the brew kettle resides, but it's a screwy situation.

In your case, do you think 100 miles make sense for a "local beer" definition?

Some of us could pare down the "local" definition to beer brewed in our home city and last several happy weeks. That wouldn't be as easy for me, and because of Texas' spread-out nature, I need about 180 miles to count all of my in-state favorites. "Local" sounds like a 15- to 20-minute drive from my house, not three hours.

    Words are hard.

Well between Fat Head's, Jackie O's, Hoof Hearted, Columbus, The Brew Kettle, Little Fish, Willoughby, Rivertown and many many more this would be super easy! I actually drink mostly local anyhow.

I just so happen to be in a situation where my home state isn't known for beer other than two big names and they are difficult to find even living here. NJ has more beers in distribution now than ever before i belive and the beers coming out are more than just solid, and id like to advocate my home state brews because whenever i hear New Jersey and beer its the same thing every time. I will be including the two well known jersey breweries the best i can because im also proud to have them here. No hate. There's just a lot more here than one would think because since everyone loves DIPA and barrels, any other styles/brewers are pushed aside. And i believe there's a beer and food truck festival this week in my town of Tuckerton, if it didnt already pass. I MAY need to check that out and scope out some Pinelands or Ship Bottom beers if time is on my side (busy work week) nevertheless i grabbed some good variety today for a later moment to share info on them.

    Cheers.

Local means I can leave the house early and get to the brewery by lunch.

I second unhyped's sentiments, except for me it's Washington. Where to start: Reuben's, Stoup, Lucky Envelope, Hale's, Fremont, Cloudburst, Holy Mountain, Bale Breaker, Boundary Bay, Iron Horse, Hilliard's...I could go on. I carry an empty growler in my car on all trips.

First post and an IPA yeah yeah. With so many why would i start with run of the mill ipa. This is a very clean, light ipa for 6.6% more citrus than pine and enjoyable and worth it if you are a fan. Brewed and bottled by the New Jersey Beer Co. In Bergen NJ. A portion of sales from LBIpa will go to Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Shore Relief and that is why i chose it first for this. Hurricane Sandy was and is a huge deal. My family, friends all for lack of a better word paid for it and the town i live in is still a ghost town. So it really hits home. LBI itself was like ground zero. no in no out. everything underwater. People out of work or stranded for weeks to months. so thank you NJ beer co for this beer and what you are doing with it. It is a tasty ipa and to be honest its "another" IPA but it is still special in a way and is tasty if you prefer tangerine, lemonade flavor as opposed to pine. Ill be onto another NJ brew tomorrow.

    Cheers

Little Dog in Neptune is solid. A brewery is opening down the shore, Jug Handle I believe, in May.

Lately I've already been drinking about 75% NJ beers anyway, between Kane, Carton, Magnify, Conclave and Forgotten Boardwalk's Pocket Trick. Plus a buddy gave me a Departed Soles beer last week. I was already thinking about trying this. Confused about some people mentioning the distance they are away from Kane and Carton. You can get growlers all over the state.
