I agree...my favorite SD brewery and glad for the NorCal distribution. If you liked City of the Sun, try Booming Rollers.

You should try to take a trip to Casa Agria and try whatever IPA they have available in the time being.

You think the Monkish IPA's are closest to NE IPA's yet you haven't had them? Am i missing something?

My apologies to the last two posts i posted. I didn't come here to be rude. :astonished:

I think there are a decent number of breweries on the West Coast pumping out NE style juice. SARA, Cellarmaker, Alpha Acid, Casa Agria, Monkish - to name a few from my experience. I just think the guys claiming that the West has no breweries coming close to or similar to East Coast haven't had a lot of the West Coast breweries that are brewing this style. Having my first TH beer along with the likes of Tired Hands, Other Half, Trillium and my first reaction was WOW! I haven't had anything quite like this before. Soft, creamy mouthfeel. Not too bitter and malty. Fruit flavors and aroma from the hops, etc.. Since then i've had the CA beers i mentioned above weekly and are just as good IMO. Casa Agria Megacitronic was fueg fxcking O.

All in all, comes down to personal preference like with anything. We all have great beer around us to share and enjoy. Just enjoy it. Sip slow.

    Cheers!

Yes, not sure what is weird about that. Based on what people are saying and the look of it, sounds like they made a NE style IPA.

I totally agree with you. I was more referring to the suggestions people were shooting out that did not fit NE style. I would never call any Modern Times beer NE style. City of the Sun might come close but its a West Coast IPA with some NE characteristics not the other way around.

Your suggestions are more on par with the course.

I'm convinced that some people actually DO taste juicy flavors from beers that I think taste like cannabis and onions.
Must be nice as there sure are a lot of 'em. Especially on the west coast.
On the other side of the spectrum, the New England-based "hazy" ones taste great for a few sips but bore me after about 1/2 a glass.
I'm waiting for the return of the "Old School" American IPA that has more or less been renamed "Red IPA" or "Red Ale."

The comment about you not having Monkish - i was just messing with you. I know that it is a NE style but also just from the beer looking murky, unfiltered and juicy doesn't necessarily mean that it will have the soft mouthfeel and hopforward less malty taste as a NE style. And i agree with everything you said about MT.

I also prefer a clear, resinous bitter bomb over the cloudy, fruit flavored cousin. While I've had Heady and rated it as world class, I'd take Pliny over Heady any day. Not meant to be a dis to east coast style IPAs but that just my preference.

I guess I would consider Laguinitas Waldo's Ale pretty juicy. I taste pure peaches and think it's fantastic.

Damn tasty -- soft bitterness...juicy (orange and grapefruit)...cloudy as hell...they definitely got their NE IPA thing going w this beer. Finish reminds me a lot of Bissell Bros beers more than Trill/TH/HF etc. Kind of peppery and a little dankness. Excellent brew and current answer to OPs question IMO. Cheers BA and thx @akang....king of SD beer traders....

If it's that good, I'm in. Bissell & Foundation put out the best ipa’s that I've encountered. Trillium was all juice, but lacked complexity.

100% agreed. That new car smell is going to ware off eventually. Once every brewery in the country is making the NE style, the superiority complex will disappear. I can't wait.

On the west coast I love fresh squeezed and enjoy by. Since you're into trading I do have to mention that TG hops are by far my favorite.

Reading thru a good bit of this topic and it's pretty clear to me that the beers being mentioned are all over then place. Obviously the term juicy is impossible to clearly define, it can't be measured or quantified. Simple personal preference to certain hop or hop combos for most people is about what I draw from it.

Alpine "Not Nelson" -- 7% IPA brewed w the Nelson grain bill and Mosaic hops. Damn good. Aside from the gorgeous cloudy yellow color -- not NE IPA at all-- just classic SD bitterness. Sorry OP -- cross this one off the want list.
