Scottish 80/- recipe, gravity 1.050, White labs Edinburgh yeast, i attached a blow off tube directly from my 6.5/7 gallon carboy directly into 2-quart glass pitcher where i had halfway filled it with the Star San solution i used to sanitize my equipment.

I collected about an inch+ of yeast from the hose after 10 days and my plan is to pitch that yeast into a sanitized glass mason jar of an equal amount of liquid. Put it in the fridge, wait for the yeast to settle to the bottom, do the transfer process into a new sanitized glass a few times and then use that yeast for a new batch of beer.

Any of the yeast veterans have any thoughts if this sounds viable? Is the Star San solution too toxic for the yeast? Or is my proposed methodology OK? Any thoughts welcomed…. thanks in advance.

Salvaging yeast from StarSan is not recommended. My best guess is the StarSan killed 99% of the yeast.

Well, yeah. Killing yeast and other bugs is what StarSan is for.

I suggest collecting from the bottom of your bucket after you have racked off the yeast. Put in a glass jar in the fridge, and add it to some starter wort when you want to ferment with it again.

When I want to collect yeast from the blowoff tube, I have a large jar with a wide lid. I drilled two holes in the lid: one for the blowoff tube, and one for a stopper and airlock. Instead of starsan, I put about an inch of water that was previously boiled and cooled, with the blowoff tube below the water level.
