I saw your finger lakes thread. Funny thing is I bought 1 bottle of Guava Grove at Fingerlakes beverage in early august. It was the first time I tried it but I am almost 100% sure it was the sour version. Unfortunately I tossed the bottle. The label was like the picture posted not the label they show on the CCB website.

The 750ml flat bottom first batch is theoretically not sour. The rest of the old labels should be sour (there might have been a tiny unsoured brewery release, I'm not 100%), and the new-style labels shouldn't be.

In theory, anything without a bottle date and without a flat bottom should be sour.

So, I checked my bottle. Bottle says MAY09.11.

Is this for sure not a sour?

that is exactly where this thread came from. i went to finger lakes beverage and they had a couple sitting there, but i asked the guy if they had been sitting there a while, like over a year or something and he said no. only about a month or two. they had the all silver cap, though. maybe he got them from someone who had been sitting on them a while, though. dammit, i knew i should have pulled the trigger on a bottle.

Just because it is new at the store doesn't mean it hasn't been sitting in some corner at the distributors warehouse

I have one of these bottles as well (picked up at FLBC 2 weeks ago). Not sure when it'll get opened though.

Yes. They switched the yeast shortly before that batch. The exact switch happened in April of 2011.

That's assuming that batch isn't infected though, I couldn't tell you that for sure. That was around the time where CCB was having big infection issues though, so it'd be a lottery on your bottle.

    Damn. Wishful thinking, I guess.

got mine for $9.50 a bottle. Got 2 of them and have a silver cap. They were there for a while and I just always passed them by to buy the cascade and cantillon he stocks. Finally purchased them, although, not hoarding, haven't had one yet.

Does this mean we can now consider Cantillon to be a shelf-beer again? Haha, I have still yet to see (let alone try) any of these beers.

I was buying so much he wouldn't put on the shelf but would keep saying "hey dude, I saved you these!!" My bank account did not like that man. Let's just say I am on a Homebrew only kick now.

Ok, bringing this thread back from the dead.
I just picked up some bottles of Guava Grove dated November 2010. They have a punted bottom, and plain gold caps. This batch is definitely sour.
So, putting together everyone's posts and experiences, this is what i was able to conclude:

    1) First batch of Guava Grove - 2009? NON-punted champagne bottle bottoms. Plain cap. NOT SOUR.
    2) Second batch of Guava Grove - 2010. Punted champagne bottle bottoms. Plain gold cap. Used the St. Somewhere yeast instead. SOURED.
    3) Subsequent batches - Punted champagne bottle bottoms. Dated bottles. CCB written on cap. NOT SOUR.

    phew.

The bottle you have, I had one as well, was a little funky (sour) but like it better then the regular guave grove

My brother and I discovered Guava Grove last summer and couldn't get enough of it. Plenty of flavor and pleasantly sour, yet still approachable for novice beer drinkers. A steal at $9/bottle! We probably drank 15 of them before they disappeared from the NYC shelves last winter.

The new batch showed up earlier this year, and every bottle has been disappointing. Ugh. Bring back the sour edition!

As others have said, the sour is better than the non-sour version. It's like it was meant to be sour!

A little late to the party, but just read this thread. There's a store down the road from me in Jax has 7 of the sour bottles. Not sure how it holds up, but if any out-of-towers are looking to trade, or if locals are looking for the store, just BM me.

Glad I came across this thread. I am getting ready to head to Fl. was going to load up on Guava. I really enjoy the sour version. Will have to try the non-sour to see if it is worth stocking up on.
