    You can't complain about slow service.

    I stopped in yesterday before the home opener. There was a steady crowd of people in there, but it wasn't too busy.

    The space looks great. Tons of room in there, and a great location close to the ballpark. I tried all 3 of the beers they had available, and while none of the 3 really stuck out to me, all 3 were fair and at least didn't have any noticeable brewing flaws. I'm excited to see what they come up with, as the Wasteland (rye pale ale I think?) and Cold Press Lager sounded good.

    I'm of the opinion that every bar/brewery/restaurant should have at least a week of soft opening. Basically time where you don't advertise that you're open and just let word of mouth send people your way. Use that time to invite in your family and friends and get the servers up to speed, work out the kinks in the system, whether that be the draft lines, the POS stations, the credit card machine, what have you.

    I've been to far too many places on the first week of them being "open" that have had major problems that are greatly exasperated by the volume of customers. Even at a place that's been open a while if you run into one snag in service in a packed house you can be in for a long night.

    Anyway, just my former server/bartender soapbox that I need to jump off.

    1. You're opinions are generally terrible. See Ravens Defense.
    2. Jump off more than a soapbox.

    Since being there Monday, I can't wait to go back. Plus there are 3-4 more places you can stop by within 3-4 blocks. If only the baseball stadium would have a decent team playing! :slight_frown:

    I think this is a good point and goes along with the discussion around new breweries opening before they are ready or opening with beer that isn't ready. Seems like the owners at Modist have their shit together. All have experience in the industry so they know what to expect starting out. They seem to have a solid business plan and sense of direction. With a beer named "Calibration", they've brewed some test batches to figure out their system. I think that since they all have good experience/reputations in the industry, they had a much easier time securing the capital needed to ensure that they could do things right and hit the ground running. Can't wait to check the place out!

    Sure, they brewed some test batches. They're the three they have on at the taproom right now.

    Definitely a cool space and exceptional branding, can't wait to see how the next few beers they release turn out - Wasteland and Smoove both sound pretty rad. I thought the initial three were decent at the soft opening, but certainly nothing mind blowing. I have high hopes, the owners seem like cool people.

    You forgot to use the sarcasam smiley on your post

    It's pretty clear they brewed batches that they didn't serve/sell to the general public.

    Not according to the employee I talked to. Calibration is just that. Their calibration batch is their first batch of beer they brewed, ostensibly to calibrate their brewhouse.

    And they're serving this first batch? or is this a second or third or fourth bath of the calibration recipe?

    If not, I guess my assumption was wrong. Foot in mouth

    I would just put beer in your mouth instead of your foot... it would probably taste better too.

    Last night's The Beer Show had a person from Modist Brewing as a guest. I only caught a couple minutes of it, so IDK who from Modist was on, or what he talked about. Check it out here, if you're interested.

    Thought I'd report after a second visit. First visit during their soft opening week. Had pHresh and Toats. Tasted the calibration from a friends glass. Everything underwhelming. Toats was the most interesting. nice aroma, enjoyed the oat malt bill... pHresh cannot possibly be what they intend to serve. Billed as a refreshing tart ale, I picked up not a hint of tartness. Calibration is perhaps the least interesting beer I've ever had. No off flavors or aromas but... Just... No flavors or aromas. It's like an EPA without hops. Second visit, still only 3 beers on tap, well after the grand opening. Only change is Toats has been replaced by Smoove, a salted caramel lager. I can't report on it, as it's more expensive and I just can't bring myself to cough up 7 bucks for a lager after 3 other disappointing beers. There are some great things about this place. The space is fantastic, and only 2 blocks from target field. Nice variety in indoor outdoor seating, and quick friendly service. I'm, honestly, just getting really frustrated by places opening and serving what amounts to be test beers for 6-7 bucks a pint.

    I was there Tuesday, the 10oz pours were 6-7$? My buddy picked up my tab, and I wasn't paying attention.

    Anyhoo - grossly underwhelmed. Went to fulton for 2 more beers before the game.

    Ill check out Modist again once they get up and running "more".

    The 10oz pours are $3-4 as of Saturday afternoon. I was underwhelmed with the Smoove, and Phresh was descent. Place was packed and the lines seemed to go quickly. I then went to Fulton and it was packed there and took a few minutes to get a pint (300). Luckily I called the wife and she wanted a growler and the line for that was none.

    That's not right. They have their prices on the board and I don't recall a single one being $6-7 for a 10 oz.

    I was there last night. Your friend is wrong unless prices changed or they are different on game days.

    Calibration = 10oz - $3, 16oz - $5
    pHresh = 10oz - $3, 16oz - $5
    Smoove = 10oz - $4, 16oz - $6

    I thought they were all decent approachable beers, but am excited to see what they have in the next few months and beyond.

    Taxes are higher on alcohol in the downtown area. I would assume this applies to Modist, and could easily explain a $6 pint.

    I had a question mark after the 6-7$ thing for a reason - I didn't think 6-7$ was correct, I was questioning the previous poster who claimed that the beer wasn't worth 6-7$.

    I thought the pricing was perfectly reasonable, just the beer wasn't that great.
