    Stray Thought:

If De Garde filled crowlers at their tasting room, they would totally have to call them COWlers.

It would be a great format to hold the beer I've been wondering why DeGarde doesn't brew; the German-style, wheat beer: Heiferweizen! :grinning::grimacing::flushed:

I thought R Lee Ermey already covered that in Full Metal Jacket.

Everybody going back to PDX from T-mook should grab a bag of clams and drop them off at @LockeNess33 's house. He'll loooove it, I promise!

Party was great. Kegs and bottle pours were ridiculous, just about every dG release you could want was offered. Legend has it there was even a 3L of Broken Truck No. 2 hand-poured by Linsey... Lines got a little long at times, missed out on The Purple and The Lily because of the how long they were. Overall, my expectations were definitely met and exceeded! Allocation pickup was super easy and never got crowded.

Well, the weather is gorgeous, so I'd suggest finding someplace where you can drink outside.

Apex has a particularly good taplist (especially if you're a hop head) including BB Head Shake, Pallet Jack, & Tumble Off, Boneyard Notorious, Hop a Wheelie, & Hop Venom, and pFriem Blonde IPA, so that's not a bad option.

Loyal Legion has a bunch of fun oddballs from lesser seen places like Ferment, Agrarian, Montavilla, Ruse, Coldfire, Rosenstadt, Viking Braggot Company, and more.

Belmont Station has Culmination Phaedrus IPA, Fathead's Hop Ju Ju, Heater Allen Helles, Old Stock Reserve (Wheat Whiskey 2014), 3 Fontentian Zwet.Be, Magnolia Atlas on cask, etc...

Finally getting through this beast of a thread. Totally worth it just to feel like I'm justified at laughing at all the clam gun jokes. I was laughing before I read the thread, but now I understand why I'm laughing. And also to learn that there is a taxi service in Tillamook at all, much less one that it is named 'Kenny G Taxi'. Fantastic ... I must utilize this service to get from de Garde to the air museum next time I'm in town (yes, I know where they are both located). Speaking of the air museum ... I'm surprised that this isn't mentioned more when discussing things to do in Tillamook. I understand not everyone is an aviation geek like myself, but it is still a pretty interesting place to check out (for just the building and its history if not for the actual aircraft inside). I heard it used to be much better, but I would definitely recommend to anyone going out that way.

It was also interesting to read the discussion regarding the de Garde Anniversary Party. Release parties are definitely not my cup of tea (I would need a suit of clam shell armor to make me feel comfortable enough around all those hunters), but I love how locally-focused de Garde is. I've heard that there were a lot of displeased people, but I love this method. Those that live locally and frequent the brewery throughout the year should get first dibs when it comes to attending the release parties, in my opinion. I've been out there a couple times since moving up here from the Midwest and it is hands-down my favorite brewery experience. Which is fairly surprising since I am a huge sports fan and typically am by myself --- which makes a TV almost a necessity for me. However, a TV would be so out of place there and completely take away from the experience.

Alright, I'm starting to get too serious and I really don't want to get kicked out of this thread.

I generally mention the air museum when folks ask what else there is to do. I'm a big aviation nerd too, and have had several different airplane avatars (I change avatars whenever I change my socks. It's like changing the batteries in your smoke alarm when you spring ahead or fall back). If you haven't been yet, get out to McMinnville and check out the air museum there. They've got a little bird called The Spruce Goose, and a waterpark that goes through a 747: http://www.evergreenmuseum.org/

I haven't made it out to McMinnville yet, but the folks at work have been suggesting I visit this place since I moved here. Looks awesome and its definitely top on my priority list.

Anyone know anything about the Tillamook Airport? My buddy wants to go visit with me next time I go and he also needs to get his flying hours in so he offered to fly me out there next time. Location of the airport looks prime for a de Garde visit (walking distance, perhaps?) but I don't really know anything else about it so looking for anyone's personal experiences.

It's a quiet little airport. I bumped into an airport employee at Pelican a while back and was chatting with him about it. IIRC, he said they average 75 take off & landing events per day. You could totally walk from there to dG, but I'm not sure I'd want to walk back with a box full of bottles, but I guess it would depend on how long you're staying and where they make you park the plane.

Looking at Google maps, the hangers are on the north end of the complex, so if you had to park there you would have what appears to be roughly 1 mile of walking. If they let you park on the north end of Runway 19 it would probably cut the walk in half and you could walk down the service road past the air museum.

If nothing else, it would be cool to tell people you flew to de Garde on a private flight.

Thanks for all of the info! 75 is more than I thought they would do in a day. I'm looking forward to seeing Tillamook in all her glory from the air! I'm trying to find if there is anything else in that general area that would be worth checking out from the air. I thought it would be cool to fly over the coast a bit, but I'm not sure if there are any other sights/landmarks to see (Tillamook Bay?).

You could take a 20 mile detour to the north and check out Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock from above.

Depending on you're taking off from (and, all the traffic patterns and stuff that come with flying, that I have no idea about), maybe follow the river out to the Astoria area, and see how the water over the bar is that day, then turn south to T-Mook. Plus, if your buddy needs Landings and Take-offs to stay current, you could stop at the Astoria airport for some Touch-and-goes. That'd be fun, for me at least.
