    Hey...

I know this has been an ale for the longest time. Their web still has it as such, at 4.80% ABV. But I was up there last weekend and they had it on tap, listed at 5.40% ABV. I asked the server and she said it was a lager, and had been "lagering" for a while. So, is this new? Or was she a bit off her nut? An email to OC has not been responded to yet... I am curious as I really don't like the practice of calling an amber ale "Oktoberfest". Danke...

I did receive an Otter reply today:

"Our Oktoberfest is indeed a lager. We ferment this brew with Andechs lager yeast. We also hand loaded all malts (Munich, Vienna, and Pilsen) by hand in lieu of the conventional bulk 2 Row used for our traditional ale production. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the fruits of out labor. Cheers!

Awesome, I will give it a shot - if I ever see it anyway. One of the few stores near me that carries OC seasonals are usually about two seasons behind. Plenty of out of region pumpkin beers to choose from though. ;-(

Had a long chat with OC/W brewer Sean Williams about the new Octoberfest at VT Brewers Fest - he was extremely proud of it, and grateful for finally being allowed to make a true lagered version of the style. Everyone was pleased with it at the fest - including me. Glad they have made the commitment to lagering some styles now.

Forgot about that one - was tasty. Took it for granted just like the Portsmouth Lager & POOF they were gone, just like Sierra Nevada Glissade (another great lager that's gone) .

Look forward to trying the OC Ofest. Would appreciate postings for availability around Boston.

So it is a different beer now?

Yes. It's a lager now instead of an ale.

Saw some at Glendale package store in Waltham - I was able to grab one from the back of the cooler to avoid the sunlight riddled bottles in their cooler doors.

Weird though, it's labeled as an Autumn Ale - I thought maybe it was last year's? If I read the bottling date correct, it seems to be this years. Didn't taste stale or like their Ofest in the past either - pretty clean yeast profile that lets the malt character shine. I wasn't planning on drinking last night, but ended up having 3 of them.

Just picked up a 6er of this after seeing that it's a lager. I really like the new version. It's a lighter version of the style, compared to say, Berkshire's O-fest, which I dig.
