I love the style.. some examples are better than others though.. but there's been some great ones coming out recently like Hoppin' Frog Hop Heathen and Arcadia B-Craft Black Double IPA. Stone obviously does them well between SSR, 15th Anniversary, More Brown Than Black. I love them.

I enjoy the style, but I have to be in the mood for them, which isn't very often.

I have been enjoying Wookey Jack lately, very solid beer. Stone 15th was a fantastic beer. There are others I like also, really enjoy this style.

yes most are quite tasty, but be careful. Laughing Dog DogZilla was quite average, as was some local ones Ive had. If a brewery isnt willing to load it down with hops, it turns out like a Schwarzbier basically.

Stone 15th, Weasel Boy's was pretty good, as was Hoppin Frog Hop Heathen.

Love them. 512 Black is pretty darn good. Too bad it's keg only.

In love? No. But I am really enjoying this style. Tonight is a little sad because I just finished my last New Glarus Black Top. A really delicious Black IPA/Cascadian Dark, unfortunately I haven't had many others, but will be on the lookout more for this style.

It's a fun style that I wouldn't say I'm in love with, and the inconsistency makes it hard to really explore outside of those you already know are good. I did reach for an Odell Mountain Standard last week when I was in Arizona and I was VERY satisfied with it.

I thought Hop in the Dark, Sublimely Self-Righteous, Arcadia B-Craft, ST Iniquity and Short's Bludgeon Your Eye were all enjoyable.

I'm learning to love the style. My absolute favorite is Arcadia's B-Craft Black IPA. Alaskan Black IPA, Uinta's offering and Hoppy Bunny are some of the better ones I tried IMO.

Stone Sublimely Self Righteous, 15th Anniversary, and Odell Mountain Standard are my favorite Black IPAs. Odell Mountain Standard is really underrated in my opinion.

I am a big fan of the style as well, and a new favorite is Societe Brewing's The Scrapper.

I agree with the statement of inconsistency of the style...but one a brewer gets it right it can be amazing...IMO.

Anyone else try Black Moon IPA from Rock Art?

Only have had one I've really liked, and would buy again-Ugly from Alpine. I remember that being an ipa that just happened to be black, but with little flavor that the blackness would suggest.
I keep trying, but the style comes off as a mess to me most of the time.

Back in the day we called them hoppy porters - which is what 99% of these with a black ipa name really are.

Dissapointed that craftbeer marketing (bandwagon jumping) and quest for profit (not using enough hops to overcome the dark malt character) corrupted what could have been a good style of beer.

I like em but they seem pretty polarizing...my favorites are/have been more brown than black (wish they would brew it again, so damn good), wookey jack, black moon (rock art brewed for hunger mtn) and jacks abby cascadian schwartzbier.

Edit: Otter creek black ipa was suprisingly good too.
