This was my thought/hope exactly. After my top choices were gone early in the day, glad this was still around for D.

I could see that being tough to turn down...although I did turn down the $150 for BBDL. Your buddy came out $50 ahead, got 4 bottles of regular DL, probably had some free food/taps and most likely got to receive shares of beers that he wouldn't normally get...how can you hate on someone for that? Everyone's got a different price point (or if someone doesn't like that word, then use the term value) for whatever they got, and each person has the freedom to take or leave something offered to them. I don't get why people get so worked up about someone selling a bottle. It's as though people forgot what country we are in.

So glad I took my Militia out of my bag and put it in my backpack before the tote with the 4 regs was stolen. Next year I really want to bring decoy bottles filled with diarrhea or something, leave them, and laugh as the poor sap grabs it. I know that it's not a perfect idea for many reasons and I'm sure all of you will point them out, but the thought of it makes me laugh.

I can hate on it, easy peasy. But I don't want to start a fight over it here.

You're right to bring up our societal values. As you say, look at what country we are in, where it's totally cool for robots to buy up thousands of concert tickets and turn around and resell them on other websites at higher costs, or on the streets, or not at all. What a country!

    LMMFAO!

You're missing the obvious two birds, one stone solution to the lack of North Gate line porta-johns.

If there were only a trading market and not a black sales market, there would be less incentive to steal. I assume most of these thieves are not looking to flip the bottles for other bottles. So, yes, it's a lesser evil.

Personally, I buy beer to drink it. I know that's novel.

You know it is actually illegal to sell those bottles, right? I'm not sure it's the critics of the practice of selling the bottles that are the ones forgetting where we are.

You're right...no need to start a fight about it. Considering it's our country that gave me the ability have the experience I just had at DLD, I'll take it..."warts" and all.

Back to the general DLD discussion, it seems to me the only true problem was the north entrance cluster. It seems like they really need to get that figured out for next year. It makes no sense that one entrance goes so smooth and the other sucked so bad.

As for stealing, that sucks all around, but I just don't know what 3F can do about it. I don't think I'd leave my bottles in one of those lockers honestly, even if they had them.

Personally have no problem with people selling their variants if others are crazy enough to pay. If someone offered me $150 for my BBDL, I would have sold it. It's just beer....

I strongly disagree. Obviously we are both entitled to our opinion and I respect yours. My feelings - many people who've attended DLD for years go solely for the bottle shares, guest taps, and overall camaraderie the event provides (or at least they used to). In those respects, the event is the best of its kind. The new ticket system this year inherently forced every individual who wanted to attend for those reasons to make a choice: 1) Skip the event they love for those reasons previously listed due to every attendee now having to buy everything that previously was purely optional, or 2) Pony up the $200 even though you don't want some or most of what that affords you.

Further, what if you aren't into trading. Years ago, I traded a lot. Now, for me personally, I just find it to be a hassle and with the exception of sending bottles out to my Bruery trustee, I no longer do it. As someone else said in response to those saying it's heresy to do whatever you want with something you own, how is me selling my variant for $200 any different than me trading it for $200 of beer? To me, the only difference is the hassle I have to go through in finding a trade and packing beers, hoping everything goes smoothly, etc., instead of simply spending 5 seconds accepting some $ and handing over the bottle.

Mind you, I have won several variants over the years and have always drank them, but I simply cannot understand why anyone gives a damn what I do with the variant I own. It is just beer.

Unfortunately, this most likely will only affect the person they trade or sell it to.

I was in Group A and was finally able to get through North Gate security and secure my bottles at 12:25. As I walked out of the building, a guy offered me $200 for my variant. If this was the same guy, I assume he realized he had to up the ante since he was clearly not going to get any bites at $200 for a Marshmallow or French Vanilla.

I hope you're not serious in using that as an argument. I can understand if you just take a stance that you don't believe in selling bottles, but to come here and use the argument of it's illegal is pretty silly.

I get what you're saying. This was my 10th DLD, so I definitely know how it has changed over the years and how it's a different event than it used to be. I definitely wish I could just show up with a cooler, some chairs, a grill, a canopy, and hang out like you could when I started going. But I also understand that there are way more people into craft beer now, and it's simply not possible to hold the event that used to exist.

I do, though, think it exhibits a lack of perspective when you say you're forced to buy a variant. You're simply not. If you don't like the value proposition, the solution is simply not to go, even though it's sad that an event you are nostalgic for has morphed into something that you think isn't worth it any more.

Why would the fact that it is a crime to resell that beer not be an argument against doing it? It's true I don't believe in selling beer, and I know other people feel differently, but even if I were cool with it, I would not do it because the risk of getting caught, email if remote, isn't worth a couple hundred bucks. I mean, I'm pro-drug legalization, but personally I wouldn't take the risk of dealing drugs. I'm not sure why you think it's so ridiculous that I couldn't be serious in making in argument in that regard.

it's also illegal to trade beer via shipping it. in some states, forms of tasting groups are illegal (like sharing a Hoarders Society membership would be illegal if you pay the member for a share of it).

Actually, to my understanding, it is not illegal to trade beer as long as you don't use USPS. Do you have a reason to believe otherwise?

The reason being is that this is a forum full of people shipping beer across state lines. That is not legal.

so back in the good old north east and have been reading the thread

This year was my first time to Huna and Dark Lord .. two totally different events.

taking weather out of it ... both are cool in their own way.
    it is personal preference
both have crazy lines .. I would personally pay double ticket price for half the people to attend the event

    Huna:
all about the taps .. and tons of stuff kicked way too early but that did allow you to leave early and pick up your bottles before the line got to crazy. Tapas style food
Plus it is during Tampa beer week so tons and I mean tons of stuff going on in the area

    Dark Lord:
all about the bottle share -- made all those lines a little better to deal with . People all super nice -- going to bring more Hill Farmstead next year.
Getting your allotment was super easy !
Tap list was a joke..only got one pour of beer didnt seem worth the effort.
Food was good besides the rain soaking them while you ate.
Dark Matter coffee .. amazing merch tent!
Still kind of amazed about how drunk people get.. at least pace your self to enjoy the day. Not to the point of puking on your self falling face first and cracking your head open-- saw that trifecta happen once and puking one's self many times.

Overall I am a beer nerd and will hopefully attend both events next year.. just will hope for better weather!
