I really enjoyed the hop burglar I picked up. I prefer for the fruit to be restrained in these types of IPAs. In my opinion the fruit should back up the hop profile, not take center stage.

Citra-quench-al is already sold out again at the brewery. Heard that went through (15) 1/2 barrels in 4 days at the brewery alone.

I can believe it. I got a crowler on Friday and drank it yesterday. I still prefer a "regular" IPA to the New England style but it was very good and I could definitely drink several glasses easily.

Jade, Pernicious IPA, Freak of Nature, and Hop Drop n Roll are my favorites. The only one I can actually get here is Jade. Have to drive west to get the others. And if you are in Asheville, Wedge IPA is a very good beer.

Where are you at in NC that you can't get Pernicious out of curiosity? I figured it was everywhere in the state.

Based on the comments, I would guess Down East (looking at his profile it looks like Greenville, NC).

You are correct. We are the last area in the state to ever get anything. The Triangle sees more Duck Rabbit than we do and we are fourteen miles from the brewery.

A little late to the thread, but Citraquintial from Heist absolutely crushes it. Easily the BEST IPA in the state. Hands down. No competition. Not quite double dry hopped Trillium or Green/Julius level, but very very close.

Heist came out with two new IPAs today, All Is Ripe and Reformed (DIPA). Anyone get a chance to try them yet? I'm planning to get up there tomorrow for a crowler of each.

The Lynwood Hop on Top IPA is excellent. Drinking it within a week of canning and tall boys is amazing. Well rounded IPA. Freak of Nature is also one of my favorites.

There are currently a lot of good IPA's throughout the state. A lot of them may not be distributed around the entire state however. Most of them have been mentioned on the post already.

What is the deal with Heist? Did they get a new brewer or something? How are they all of sudden making all these alleged great IPA's?

Eric has been brewing at Heist for 2ish years. While his Ipas of late have been amazing, his Cataclysm series of stout have been outstanding!! I opened a BA Cataclysm 2 last night and it rivals Bourbon County. They are making some of the best beers in the state.

I still love freak and pernicious...hoo burglar is between meh and good for me. This batch of scythe is so damn good. If fresh scythe were always available, it'd be a constant struggle between that and triple c 3c and freak

The IPAs have been great for the past 2 years, they are just now getting a lot of recognition because they're the first brewery in the city to jump on the cloudy IPA bandwagon.

Seriously, go look at the reviews for Cloud 9. It was one of the first few beers they put out after changing brewers.

Pernicious is probably the best bet for a single. Freak is hard to beat for double. I like jade and hop drop too, but hop drop falls off FAST! It seems like if it's more than a week old, it just turns for the worse.

Received a crowler of Citraquintial today from a very generous BA and it went down in about 5 seconds flat, what an awesome beer! Hard to not put it up there with the best few in the state and I definitely will be making Heist a priority the next time I head west!

All Is Ripe is awesome. Very similar to Citraquintial... NE style haze, citrus flavor, similar abv
    Reformed is solid too.

Heist has quickly become my new favorite brewery in NC.
If you thought HDnR had a lot of hype when it was first canned, just wait until Heist starts canning/bottling their IPAs.

I wouldn't mind sending you some heist crowlers for some hubris at some point. I've yet to try it.

Definitely would be down the next time they make it. Not sure right now when that'll be, but I'll hit you up when I hear about it getting close. I did hear the brewer talking the other day there about soon making a different DIPA that used cheaper hops than Hubris that could be made more often, so we might see whatever that is first.
