Plenty of people were pissing thru the fence at the end opposite the cops. I had my big hiking poncho on so I just grabbed an empty bomber and filled it up.

Just got home. Had a blast at my second Dark Lord Day despite once again having absolutely shitty weather. I got a Bourbon Barrel Aged. I thought the taps were a little underwhelming based on what I'd been told was on in previous years but I still got some pours of great stuff. The event needs more seating and $40 in vouchers was a little much. I gave away several on my way out around 7:00pm.

The bottle share in the Munster Hampton lobby on Friday was amazing. Lots of great people being generous with lots of great beer. Was able to crush a few long standing (for me anyway) whales and had a blast chatting with folks. The bottle share Saturday night was smaller but still had a lot of fun. Felt bad for the guy passed out on the couch especially when some douche started taking selfies with him.

I didn't see any assholes stealing and didn't have any of my stuff stolen. Did see a few tragedies of broken bottles including one woman who was wearing her backpack on one shoulder. It slid off and the sound of crunching glass was followed by a frothy spew of brown liquid. She didn't seem pleased. The cattle corral leading into the brewery to get allotments seemed entirely pointless.

I also got to eat at the brew pub for the first time ever Sunday night. Thoroughly enjoyed my steak and fried cheese curds. Looking forward to next year!

Question: What was in those tall, thin bottles that were being passed around at the Hampton bottle share that had a white label and a picture of baby's feet on it?

Where's the lack of perspective? If you want to attend DLD, you are now forced to buy the variant. I always maxed my allocation and bought a variant if I won. However, I can see and accept the other side, and all said, I just don't give a shit about what people do with their personal property as long as there is no impact on my life. Agree to disagree I guess...

So there were a few variants aged on barrels I am not familiar with. For myself; as an example, I grabbed a Legio Gemina. Does anyone have any insight on what specific brand and year of Pineau de Charentes barrels were used? When I decide to open it I would like to have a bottle of it alongside 2016 DL and the Legio Gemina. I am guessing this question may apply to other variants too.

This is the post of the thread IMO. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Brilliant stuff. Thanks for sharing & keeping a good sense of humor considering the events of the day. The entire porta potty episode (all through to the thief getting his comeuppance by drinking the shit barrel variant) has to be the next issue of the Alpha King comic. Can't write a better story. Here's to some good beer karma heading your way. Cheers!

I missed out on the 3F glassware and settled on the dark matter ones. Does anyone have a picture of the 3F ones?

Thanks to everyone for showing this out of towner a great first time at DLD, big shout out to @prior2two and his group for the generous and welcoming shares. I didn't even have to stop by the taps because everything you guys were sharing was much better than what I saw. Unfortunately my vouchers basically disintegrated from the rain by the time I noticed where I put them so didn't even get a chance to use any of them.

I'm glad that for drinking 10 hours straight the only drunk/stupid decision I made was buying regular Dark Matter Brain Tentacle coffee beans for $20 when I really wanted the cold brew or the "barrel-aged" beans.

So just wanted to clarify something: You are allowed to bring in backpacks, correct? I would like to go to this at least once in my lifetime, and I certainly don't wanna have my shit stolen. Seems like stuffing everything securely into a backpack would mitigate the thievery bullshit....which is just awful.

You know, I tried to not let it get to me too much. The wife still has her allocation and variant, so we at least had some DL to take home with us. All it is really going to do is lessen the amount I can age and lessen the amount I can share with others locally, because I think there are going to be few times where I would actually want to consume an entire bottle of DL by myslef.

As of yesterday, I was really considering being a one and done type person. But after thinking it through today I think I need to right my wrongs and run this bitch back again to show DL Day who is boss. So I am definitely going to try for next year's fest as well. I almost want it to rain again.

You are, yes. But people put them down for a sec, and they get stolen. I bring all my stuff back to the car asap for that reason.

Haven't seen anything posted yet, but for those that headed to the pub on Sunday, did they have any different bottle sales that weren't listed on the site?

I had Power Bottom and really enjoyed it. I drank it side by side with DL 16 and Power Bottom was way better. The barrel nullifies the sticky sweet aspect of Darklord. E

I'm glad to be reading good things about Dwarven because my buddy got that bottle. I picked up Trump and Pump.

Anyone try Trump and Pump? That's one of the few I've heard totally nothing about

This was my first DLD and had no issues with it. I've been to many other beer events that had longer lines, worse taps and more disfunction. If you got drunk and your beer got stolen....grow up and pace yourself. I got drunk and managed to stop before passing out. I got to meet a bunch of awsome people and shared a ton of great beers. I had marshmallow handjee on tap so I will not complain about the tap list after that unicorn.

    Cheers,

Another thing to consider is that people get very drunk. I was 100% convinced that some of my bottles were stolen in 2013, turns out I drank them but didn't remember.

This was my first DLD. Our group of six had B, D, and E. We got there at 10:30 and headed straight to the south line. We were in by 11:45. I pretty much went straight to th allocation line. We stood for a long time waiting for them to open it up, but once it started moving, it was pretty much as fast as you could walk. I got the French Vanilla Malita.

Got back to my group in the north tent and my buddy handed me a '16 DL. Yum. I also got to try a Handjee and BB DL....both excellent. I personally had horrible luck at the taps. I got a '16 DL of my own, but that was the only thing I got that was really a "holy crap" pour. I missed the Jackie O's by seconds. I ordered, there were three on the table, just as the guy I ordered from turn to get them, one guy grabbed two and another grabbed the last one. Oh well. For me the taps were mostly a bust...I got to try other people's pours, but never had the timing to get anything epic. Not a big deal.

The food line was miles long when I got back from taking my DL to the car. After awhile I saw a guy eating tacos and asked if they were good...he handed me one. It was excellent and I was starving. Thanks dude...it was a lifesaver. Later, food lines still an hour long, I was headed to the bathroom and saw a guy with a stack of three chorizo sausages. I said they looked good...he handed me one. Again...thanks. It probably saved me from getting way too drunk.

I came home with 5 vouchers. I just never saw stuff at the taps that was better than the shares and the food lines were too long. I sould have offered a voucher to the guy who gave me the chorizo. If you're here...I'll definitely be bringing something epic for you next year.

As far as sharing, we had people just handing us great bottles....pour what you guys want. One guy shared a 2010 dL with us all at around 5:30 or 6:00....wow. Early on in the allocation line...not much sharing. People said bring local and people will want it, but pretty much nobody wanted anything unless it was a big name. I did walk through the north tent three times with some interesting beer (Martin City and Pompeii from TG) and met some great people once I could find takers who were interested. Shocked at how many people had never heard of Toppling Goliath.
To the couple that are recently married...dude...don't be afraid to have kids. You two were great.

Overall, my only beef was the food lines. People were incredibly generous and I had some great, if not whale-ish, beers.

I did see a guy face plant by the north tent. He came up spitting blood and gushing blood from his right eye. I hope he's ok.

I went in thinking "just this once". I can't wait to go back. Our whole group is in for a repeat, even if the weather sucks.

Actually he got $260 for the mallow and the same guy that bought that bottle offered Joe $300 for the Militia...Sold!!
So, 1 guy spent $560 on 2 variants. Just insane to me that someone would offer up that kind of money but to each their own. I would've sold my variant for that kind of dough as well.

I went with a friend on Sunday and got there about 45 mins before opening. No special bottles for sale and the only "special" beer they had on tap was '16 DL. No variants, no vintages.
