Im hoping a few days/weeks will clear up some of the diacetyl, i cant stand the stuff in my beer, unless it is a czech pils and intentional. I also read that diacetyl gives you Alzheimer's.

not exactly, but in styles like this i think it has a better chance than in a lager or a filtered beer.

maybe it was to be like a buttered blueberry (sour) muffin, i mean, who doesnt butter their blueberry muffins?

I still cant wait to get my bottle on sunday, pipeworks ftw. Looking forward to their comments regarding the batch. I cant see them putting something out that is "completely undrinkable" :slight_frown:

I agree, everything ive had is nothing short of excellent imo, had the glaucus, cash for golden, and strange encounter most recently and all were great! same with previous experiences of NVU, Blood of the unicorn etc

It could be. Also from my understanding, the diacetyl absorbtion occurs effectively at warmer temperatures (ie fermentation temps), so I would think keeping the bottle at room temp versus in the fridge should help.

I bought a blue lady, I think I drank it but I can't remember. Wonder if it's the Alzheimer's settling in, quick what year is it? Whats the cost for barrel aged beers at 3 Floyd's? Can you still find bourbon county on shelves months after release?

No. Keep the beer very cold and drink it cold. It's not dacetyl in the beer.

Not discounting what anyone has mentioned here. We would not release, nor tout the beer if we didn't think it was great.

On the aroma, we detect slight amounts of potentially butyric acid. We don't detect any of that in the flavor. We've opened some 40 bottles with many groups of people and they've all been crisp and clean except one which did seem to exhibit the flavors being described (which seems like butyric acid being confused for diacetyl).
We've identified a cause of this and didn't think it was an issue since what we tasted prior to bottling and after bottling was very clean. If you open one of these 'butter bombs' please feel free to recap/cork it and bring it to us to try and we'll find a way to compensate you if you do.

So to recap, we know there is a trace amount of what we think is butyric acid which is more detectable in the aroma and we don't taste any of it in the flavor. The butyric acid is not present in the berliner we sent to a fermenter on Wednesday. Not sure if some people are just ultra sensitive to that or if some bottles are really off.

Nothing we've tasted could be confused for a butter bomb, except for one tasting I had last night of someones sample glass (opened from multiple bottles) where I was hit with that flavor... so hopefully it's a bottle-bottle case. However, my thinking on that was actually I was drinking a high IBU IPA and went straight to a sample of Blue Lady and only got that flavor on my first sip, which tasted like butter. The beer is unfiltered wheat and has a strong wheat character which combined with an uncleaned (abused bitter palate) might certainly amplify butyric acid quality. Just thinking out loud here.

For every one person saying they are tasting butter we've had probably 10 not getting that at all. So who knows. But we're listening we'll figure it out together.

This is the one rating we have on here so far and it seems to describe the beer exactly the way we do:

    "4.13/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured into a tulip glass, Blue Lady is a slightly murky dark scarlet purple blueberry juice color. An ample cap of pinkish pastel foam rises a few inches to the rim and soon settles to a layer on the surface. Minimal lacing, but solid head retention.

Musky, vinous aroma, blueberry and cheese rind. Not sure what to expect really, but it's pretty interesting and complex.

Tart and puckering as advertised, full on blueberry yogurt flavors, tannic fruit skins, light acid. Finishes pretty clean and light bodied, traditional for the style in that respect. Pretty cool hybrid fruited Berliner here, seems to take on lots of character from the fruit itself. A promising portent of things to come, namely the raspberry and "

the only thing I had to drink before mine was a tilquin gueuze and that was a couple hours beforehand (my wife had only had a gin cocktail an hour before as well) , so no hops to wreck our palates. don't want to seem like a hater - everything else you guys have done has been solid at a bare minimum, so i'm hoping the raspberry doesn't disappoint me like blue lady did.

Well the good news there is that you are willing to try our next Berliner! And for that we thank you! Really don't want to put anyone off and appreciate your patience with us youngins. We'll dial it in and get it right.
