Dark Lord Day 2016

Just wait till your kids say, look, daddy got bombed at dark lord day again.

 

Went to order two shirts and 1 patch. Shipping would have been $38. Ordered the shirts as two separate orders and shipping was only $8.

It certainly wasn't me getting my allotment stolen. That's for sure. People suck.

 

Hey folks,

I survived DLD. One of the funnest days of my life. BUT. I was hammered when I got back to my apartment and placed my entire allotment (4DL+ a De Muerte) in my fridge. Not sure why, I had intended on aging them. Maybe I was distracted by my $20 allotment of Wendy's I also arrived home with.

In your informed opinions can/should I take these out of the fridge and age them? If you have any valid info on this, feel free to share links or references on this as well.

They'll be fine. Take them out and put them in the closet or coolest and darkest place you have

And "should" you age them? The answer is a definite yes. Dark Lord is the definition of a beer that needs at minimum one year on it

 

The question is, what didn't you buy at DLD?

 

The battle axe opener! That's where I drew the line...even in a drunken state. I only bought a t-shirt and the snifters...I didn't think that was too crazy. Had I bought another item, then I think I would've thought it was a bit overboard.

Maybe I needed an IU fan to tackle me to stop me from buying stuff.

 

In years past this might have been true...not so much nowadays. Rule of thumb has typically been to wait until Thanksgiving or so. I personally thought this year was the best fresh in the last 6-7 years. ..drink one every year...it goes through phases

 

I basically buy everything I can find when at DLD (minus the shirts. I have plenty of beer/brewery related stuff already). This year I missed out on the black FFF mini-snifter and the battle axe opener. Damn it. Wish 3Floyds would just have a booth as you enter the fest where I can just hand over all my money and get all the merch.

Same. Didn't care about the hot sauce really but wouldn't mind the black snifter and bottle opener. Skipped out on the platinum snifter though and just got 4 gold ones.

I don't know what that artwork is even supposed to be on the platinum one. Seems a little too I don't know.. clean and corporate. Looks like it'd be on a business card for an insurance company. I did get a couple of the Dark Matter mugs with that artwork on there though

Interesting. I had never had a fresh Dark Lord til this year so I don't know how they usually are. My only DL experience before this event was getting a 2014 last year in the kiosk two days after the event. That was delicious. I enjoyed 14 on tap this year too.. was my favorite of the 4 vintages I tried.

16 was tasty too.. I really like the beer but I'd like for some of the fruitiness to die off. I don't mind the sweetness but it was a little too sharp with that cherry/plum tartness combined with the sweetness. 14 was highlighted more by the fudgy aspect of the beer I thought.

Don't get me wrong, I'd gladly drink a fat glass of '16 if it was in front of me right now

 

It has the Dark Matter logo like the others but instead of the 20th anniversary logo, it has the classic 3 Floyds skull with wings

 

Ah, so that was at the DM tent. I'm guessing those sold out quickly.

If it was at the Dark Matter tent then I'm a moron because I didn't even look for it. I was wrong though because it has the 20th logo and not the Dark Matter. Here's a shot I grabbed off instagram.

Ugh! I didn't even go to the FFF Merch tent because I thought all the glassware would be at the DM tent....now I am a little sad I didn't at least look. Oh well.

 

I should probably wait until I get home, but does everyone's regular DL bottles have two words printed on them? If my memory serves me: LEGIA XXXXXX or something???
