and as stated in another recent thread... BA and RB are great tools for brewers who choose to pay attention to what the raters are saying and not just dismiss them as stupid-cynical-overly-critical-dorky-hide-behind-a-computer screen-live-in-your-parents-basment-geeks who don't know anything about beer =p (for those who don't know I'm kidding, we're raters too)

FWIW, I just ran to Binny's Grand and there were five Blue Ladies on the shelf. I picked up two - one for me and one for a buddy, and left the other three. Just wanted to let BAs know in case you were plannig to stop there.

hey, even big brewers have bad batches or bad bottles. the kind of breweries that win my business aren't ones that are perfect all the time, they're the ones that make mostly solid beer, listen to their customers, and try to make up for any missteps.

if it helps you any, the bottle i got was from vas.

Thanks for the update. Bottles on the shelf can be deceiving. I talked to the beer guy at Binny's Grand yesterday and he said he definitely has more than 2 cases (wouldn't give me exact numbers) and that he expects the stuff to be around for a while. In addition when I was there yesterday the shelf only had a few bottles left, went in again this morning and they were fully stocked again (probably 15 bottles). So they're not putting it all out at once because they have limited shelf space. Good news for Pipeworks, they had almost a full row of all Pipeworks beers, probably a good 9 feet of top shelf space. Best/biggest selection of Pipeworks I've seen in the city (take my opinion for what it's worth)

Agreed, that was great to see! They had roughly 12-14 different Pipeworks varieties available on the shelf.

Completely agree. Perfect example was End of Days. First batch wasn't bad, but the second one rocked! The only way to improve is real feedback.

Keep up the great work gentlemen...

It's hard to take comments at face value, especially when working so close with a product and knowing every bit of it (smell, taste, texture, color) inside out. Comments way out of line with personal experience are even harder. I'm glad to know that you guys try to absorb the feedback, even if it is (I'm guessing) with a grain of salt.

I'm going to put one in the fridge tonight and drink it tomorrow. I will chime in with my findings. It will be nice and cold and also be the first beer of the day.

If anyone cares I just had a Blue Lady. I actually really enjoyed it. I had mini sharing with Blue Lade, Standard IPA, and a homebrewed Oktoberfest. Blue Lady was the clear winner (for whatever that's worth). I'll be posting a review shortly but long story short I tasted no butter and a really sour Berliner Weisse. I thought the blueberries added a nice twist. I'm glad I picked up 2 bottles, can't wait to drink the second one.

Just posted my review on ratebeer. Thought it was pretty good. Didn't get any diacetyl in it, but didn't get some cheese in the nose (not that it really bothered me).

Yes, they explained it as butryic acid not diacetyl. It tasted and smelled very buttery to me and butryic acid is described as baby vomit or rancid butter so it explains what I experienced.

Well damnit. I was hoping people were wrong about the diacetyl/burtyic acid/hakuna matata what have you, but I did detect a butter popcorn aroma in the nose. I asked my wife what she smelled (doesn't really drink, mother of 3 little girls) her answer vomit. So maybe it is butryic acid.
Good thing is I do not get much of it in the taste. Still a very tasty beer and definitely worth a try. Review to come soon.

Haha, had my girlfriend smell it and her usual response to smelling beer is, "it smells like beer". This time she said, "it smells like stinky feet". This was when I first cracked the bottle and I would have to say I agreed with her. Now that it has been in my glass for a bit that smell has gone away. It's drinking pretty well, just a bit different than what I expected.

I had to crack my single bottle open to see what this was all about. And the burtyic acit was a smell was of rancid cheese. Which I don't like, but if you were a fan of that type of cheese with wine I can see why people wouldn't mind. I couldn't drink it. Still LOVE Pipeworks and all of their other beers. This one just wasn't for me.

Mine tasted fine. Not quite as good as the Berliner I picked up (growler) from Hopcat last month, but still good enough for me to look forward to my next bottle.

I'll be looking around for a bottle tomorrow. Did you guys drop any cases off at Binny's Express in Hyde Park?
