I saw that in another thread. It was painful to read on many levels.

Maybe for their next article they should send a food critic who hates Italian food to Italy.

The author has really no clue about german beer culture: "But I’m left cold by the dull triumvirate of Pilsener, Weiss, and Dunkel that dominates every bar in Germany." Right. Try finding any of those styles in a brewpub in Cologne or Düsseldorf, for example. Hell, try finding a Dunkel in most pubs in germany outside of bavaria. Good luck with that.
Yeah, let him complain that "there's only pasta and pizza to eat in all italian trattorias", and then let him be happy when he finds a burger which is the same as in the US......Geez.
It's like "I want all beer in the world to taste the same way american craft beer does"...Very sad.

I went to Paris in search of a good Crois'sandwich and all I found were plain old croissants. I never loved French food anyway...

Ugh...this guy is an American beer nerd stereotype. I am amazed by the quality of German beers. Unfortunately, unless you visit Germany everything that comes over to the US is no longer fresh and can't be enjoyed as it should. It's pretty easy to hide flaws by hopping the shit out of beer (don't get me wrong, I love IPAs). Not sure why the author felt the need to go to Germany to look for hopped beers.

...at least he found a pulled pork sandwich. Welcome to the "craft" monoculture! Sad sad sad...

The more I think about it, the saddest thing about perspectives like that is that "craft beer geeks" like that think they are looking for someting "innovative and non-conventional", yet they are absolutely ignorant towards anything that is not a US-style IPA, that is not uber hoppy or something like that- which seems pretty conventional to me....

Yep...put new variety hops in anything and it somehow magically becomes "innovative."

I'm sure he can find a great pulled pork slider in a nearly identical "craft" beer bar here in the Carolinas if he makes the trip south. It's not like we have any good barbeque around here...

I think this article is straight up click bait. I wouldn't pay it much mind. I would put it in the same category as someone from Germany thinking (and writing) that all American beer is Coors Light, Miller Lite, and Bud light.

Ah, nothing tops the first real warm spring day in a southern German Biergarten after a great bike ride

    Prost!

Saw this yesterday. I don't even know what to say. It's almost like he's trying too hard to be miserable and contrarian.
I like plenty of American beers but fail to see how you can pretend to be that upset and bored with any beers.

I don't think I'd be this irritable if I were touring a place that only drank Corona Light.

Reads like the type of article written by almost any ethnocentric person visiting a country other than their own, whether they are American, British, German, French, Finnish, Dutch, etc. etc.

Okay, started to take some time to read thru the article and hit this part of the first (first) paragraph.
    Game over.

Wow...sending someone who doesn't like German beer to write an article about the German beer scene? That's f'd up. However,I'll give him a pass on the one comment about being left cold by the dull triumvirate of Pilsener, Weiss, and Dunkel that dominates every bar in Germany. I know it isn't really true, but on my 9 or 10 trips to Germany, there have been quite a few where it was almost impossible to get anything other than those three options. However, 90% of the bars in the US still only serve BMC, so what the fuck is the point?

sounds like any food critic ive ever come across.

Dedicated craft beer bars are def. a rarity here.If you just stumble into a bar youll likely be disappointed. If youre searching for one youll find one though.

Aigan, where in germany where you on your 9 out of 10 trips?..... I can't give him a pass for that stupid comment because it shows a total lack of understanding of the regional diverstiy, which is a huge part of german beer culture.
