I think it's pretty despicable that people steal bottles at an event like DLD (I mean, it's despicable in general, but even more so at an event where sharing is a large part of the purpose), but I will have to agree that I would never take my eyes off my stuff for a moment. Aside from it being a pain in the ass to carry around, I cart my beer back to the car ASAP so that under no circumstance can I even potentially be in a position to lose my belongings. I understand that not everyone has that luxury, but I definitely think that people should at least plan to keep their stuff on them at all times (or watch them at all times) if they can't drop things off elsewhere. Sucks, but it's the nature of the beast.

Anyone had any of the new variants yet? I've really heard and read nothing thus far other than the cherry is strong in Ronaldo (in a good way) and the Cardamom is strong in Temeculan (in a bad way)

Gift horse, schmift horse. Let's put aside the whole investor issue, since apparently this was also the "hospitality" tent for distributors. These are FFF's business partners. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they the primary reason people are able to purchase FFF at retail stores? Why bother inviting them at all if this is what you're going to provide? To me, it reads like a big ole "F**k you! You need us waaaay more than we need you!"

These are people who paid $500 a share in 2002 to pay for the brewpub. They get royalty checks and if paid enough a free beer every day at the pub. Blowjobs and a constant streams of whalez, bro at Dark Lord Day were never promised. They get in for free. Get their own tent and don't have to worry about securing tickets to one of the most coveted beer events in the country if not the world. Sorry your disposable income didn't make all of your dreams come true.

I can see both sides of that distributor/hospitality tent issue. IMO, FFF should just stop having it. Or, if you're an investor/distributor, it seems like you should just come to expect that level of "hospitality". So, if you want the full DLD experience with variants, etc., then buy a ticket like the rest of the masses.

They basically got the equivalent of a general admissions ticket from previous years, but with the benefit of free beer. They gave something in the range of a $40-75 value and their complaining. Thousands of people who would have loved to have gone GA this year did not get the opportunity to go at all let alone for free. Who should be bitter?

Distributors don't really do that much for FFF. Let's be honest FFF doesn't need distro. People still line up for ZD and kill an entire fermenter of bottles in a weekend at much better profit margins for them and the consumer. What is the distributor really doing? My local ones jack up the price of ZD 90% (sorry vendors, not distributors...but I'm sure the distro is taking an increased cut) and it sits on shelves. Matter of fact, since FFF has increased capacity in Chicago a few years ago, I see much of their stuff sitting on store shelves because it is too accessible. What is that doing for FFF or the consumer, but giving them a weaker product and reputation?

FFF is at its best fresh from the brewery so I'm not seeing how distributors are doing that big of a value add. They are easily replaceable by more grateful ones who can do the same sub-adequate job while still profiting from a product without biting the hand that feeds them.

I think we can all agree we would rather have FFF putting their resources into the beer rather than giving distributors InBev like comps...

If FFF didn't distribute, there's a decent chance the only time I'd have an FFF beer would be at DLD. I'm not arguing whether or not the tent at Dark Lord Day was an appropriate "thank you" to investors and whoever else (I don't care; it's not my fight or my business), but their distribution is definitely doing them a favor (well, it's a business decision, not a favor, but you get what I mean), as there are probably plenty of people who aren't willing and/or don't have the means to make it to the brewpub often, but would still like to enjoy the occasional Permanent Funeral bomber.

Drunk people do not naturally tend towards kleptomania. Like, "I used to like IPAs, then I got in to heavy stouts, then I really started to like sours, now I just like stealing other peoples shit when they're not paying attention, but I only do it because I'm drunk and it's a compulsion."

I think that, for the most part, this is true. However, there were reports of pairs of people working in conjunction...one to create a diversion while a second snagged the bottles. There were several incidents with our group that were out of place and may very well have been just such an attempt (we had a pile of backpacks and DL bags in the center of our group).

We were extremely vigilant of our stuff and kept multiple people there at all times to watch the stuff. We also implemented a "buddy system" to keep an eye on each other with respect to losing things or getting too loaded.

I haven't seen any variants from this year being sold for less than $300 online. With each one of the 8,000 or so people there having one of these variants that can be sold for $300-500 easily online, it is no doubt a target for theft. Especially when most of those people are drunk and aren't fully alert to what is going on around them.

We are talking over 2 million dollars in secondary market beer value walking around that area only guarded by drunk people.

Do we think there are 8000 people out in the wild willing to pay atleast $300 per bottle for all variants?

Re: the bolded part above, the distributor's markup is determined by the price FFF charges them for ZD, not what some vendor ultimately sells it for.

Probably. There were many more than 8k willing to pay $200 for the event.
