The Half-Acre thread (2018)

Somebody let me know how Grimalkin Amorphotron is!

 

Taste starts off like Big Hugs and finishes more like an IPA. Very different, nothing spectacular but worth trying in my opinion. Half Acre still had a bunch when I went there at 5:30 today. No limit, I believe.

 

Vallejo is as good as ever. GoneAway->Vallejo->GoneAway->Vallejo, etc. Only IPAs I need to be honest. Thanks HA.

 

Anyone know if there will be a big half acre party this year during ccbw or their throw party like last year?

It's equal parts good and confusing, I think. I like it, but the two beers in it don't meld as well as they could.

 

Lord I hope so. It's getting really close to ccbw though, so it seems unlikely.

 

I've been going to their anniversary party every year I've ever don't CCBE. It does seem a little late for party details though....

 

I saw a Fountainhead event for Saturday, May 14th where they're opening their rooftop and will have Galactic Double Daisy Cutter on draft. This is the same timing as in prior years. I assume GDDC will be released at Half Acre next Friday?

 

You're probably right. It is typically released on the 1st Friday of Chicago Craft Beer Week

 

You are correct. They are releasing it at Fountainhead before the brewery release (weird?). Anyway, the brewery release IS the 1st Friday of CBBW, which is actually May 20th.

 

It's bottled already but confirming the release is on Friday, the 20th - not the 13th.

 

Last year at the release of GDDC, the lines were absurdly long when the shop opened. I think I was in line for two and a half hours. Keep in mind this is also on a weekday during work hours. Not sure I'm willing to do that again. With the way Chicago beer scene gets crazier each year, I would expect that line to be even longer this year. Love the beer but hate the lines.

 

Where is HA at with the production brewery in Bowmanville? One would hope they have capacity to crank out even more GDDC to satisfy local demand.

 

More importantly, will they please can Beer Hates Astronauts again this year? Buying 4 packs of that beer was one of the highlights of...a couple summers ago.

 

Galaxy hops aren't the easiest to acquire. There's a reason you've never seen a year round galaxy forward IPA on the shelf.

 

It's hits distro and is on the shelf for a while, especially at the less well known beer stores. Half Acre ships everywhere, so anyone and everyone outside of jewel gets at least a case of DDC.

Hell I saw it on the shelf last year in August at some places.

Don't wait in line. Just grab it the next week.

 

He's talking about Galactic DDC, not the released twice per year in huge quantities regular DDC. In the past, GDDC has flown.

 

Bottles & growlers of GDDC lasted into the next day at the brewery last year. And with the new Balmoral facility hopefully they were able to make more GDDC this year.

 

I'm aware. I saw GDDC weeks after it was released at the brewery.

I was one of the idiots that waited in line at 11am. After I kept seeing it in liquor store after liquor store and binnys, I felt pretty dumb.
