I tried the Rum Aged Mexican Chocolate Stout for the first time Sat night, was so spicy, in an uncomfortable way, that I actually didn't even finish it, and I like spicy stuff, so that was surprising to me. Also didn't seem to pick up the chocolate, but then again I didn't let that beer cool down temp-wise as much as I should have. The way I explained it to a friend in a PM in a response he made about ghost pepper beer cheese:

"Definitely something I need to try, as ghost peppers by themselves was kinda out of the question for me, unless I was paid a hefty sum to tolerate the 45 mins of burn afterwards, although I hear the high from the endorphin rush helps balance that out, however Saturday night, despite liking spicy foods, was overwhelmed with Country Boy's Rum Barrel-aged Mexican Chocolate Stout, lit my throat on fire, however I did also have a very spicy jalapeno pumpkin pizza later that night and despite being decidedly more spicy in a more encompassing manner (more flavor, more mouth burn, more physical side effects (sinuses clearing, eyes slightly watering) the stout I didn't even finish, and I never do that, because the burn was that unfortable to me.

It wasn't the good burn I associate with most spicy stuff I enjoy, because it was just a painful burn, with none the other usual symptoms... no head rush, no tears, no nose run, just painful burn... I guess it has to do with the difference in the spices used and the delivery method, but I'm sure if anyone would know it would probably be you Mr. Kevin, but I'm definitely putting ghost pepper beer cheese down on my spicy bucket list. TL;DR = crazy stream of consciousness that might very well have no point or purpose, haha."

^ can definitely understand. I haven't had a bottle yet, going to cellar it as I think the rum was a little overbearing, but the taste of it was rather good imo. Hopefully the aging will mellow out the rum and make it a more flavorful beer. I will probably trade the other out to a buddy.

Thanks for the welcome. Grew up in Louisville so it's homecoming for me. Moreno's Liquors in Little Italy in Chicago has some of the best ATG distribution up here that I've seen. Hopefully they'll be getting some and it's not on a 1-bottle limit.

Anyone have an idea on how much the Country Western IV release will be? Hoping it's less than 10 bucks a bottle. The bomber price is always crazy expensive!

Saw an article today that said $11.99 per bottle.

... man, I hope that beer is awesome because that bomber price is dumb. Hopefully it kills.

Rodenbach Alexander should be hitting Louisville tomorrow (if it hasn't already)

I'm planning on being at West Sixth on Saturday. If some bottles are still around I may grab a few after trying it on tap.

Well picking up two tomorrow for certain. One for me and one for a buddy but if it is really good (grapefruit sculpin is one of my favorite IPAs), I might be forced to pick up another.

Given the expected price point, I'm only buying bottles for trading partners, and I won't even do that until I've tasted it myself first. But I'll be at 70K Saturday.

Went to west sixth to grab my two bottles and there were a lot of people there. Everyone there had Atleast two bottle and they were restocking the shelf. Granted the price is still a bit irritating but I am hoping the beer is tasty. Will be giving my impression tonight though.

Happy Lexington beer week everyone! Hope to see some people out to some of these events!

Blue Stallion's bottle release is on the 20th. I agree they sound interesting and I am planning on picking up a bottle of each.

The one I wish they would bottle during LBW is the ethereal stout in rum barrels. That beer in bourbon barrels is fantastic. Wish they would have bottled that. If it wasn't for me having low funds, I would plan to buy a couple of the blue stallion beers though. They sound interesting and I think they are a decent brewery.

Ok my thoughts on country western volume 4.

Great beer. It's the best DIPA I have had from Kentucky. Think of a grapefruit sculpin, except with a more dank nose and a more bitter finish. It's a great beer though. I don't recommend purchasing a bunch of bottles as I feel this is all I would want, but a solid 92 for me. The price is the downside of this beer.

FYI, West Sixth currently has Bo & Luke, Baba Yaga and Country Western III and a bunch of other stuff on tap.

I did not like Grapefruit Sculpin, but I did enjoy Country Western IV enough to buy a bottle.

70k seemed to go pretty well. I didn't make it out to the last B&L release, but that sounded like a mess. Glad they have it somewhat figured out now.
