Staying in a hotel tonight and the grocery store across the street has a bunch of Victory Old Horizontal and Oak Horizontal (corked and caged bombers) on closeout for 2.99 and 4.99 respectively. I picked up 2 of the old and one of the oak... Do either of these age well enough that I should go back for more?

My experience with them is that they age very well. At that price I'd go back for more and my only reservation would be buying the large bottles as there's no way I'm drinking the whole bottle in one night. (Old Ho used to be in 12oz bottles and I'd regularly buy a 6 pack on visits to the brewery and then drink one about every three months.) I don't have the same range of experience with the Oak Aged, but see no reason Oak aging should affect the beer's potential with aging.

:grinning:Old Ho? Is that a standard abbreviation for this particular beer?

They age very well IMO. I'd stop back and grab some more, great price.

Oak horizontal was only brewed once, correct? I believe late 2013, which means the bottle is around 2.5 years old. I had at 1 year and it was drinking phenomenal. Old Horizontal definetly ages well.

At that price point id probably buy everything they had, especially the oak horizontal because that retailed around 15.99.

Pretty much local and mostly used by Victory fans, so far as I've seen/heard/read.

Open and see if you really like them. If so then grab some more.

Might not be practical. He's away from home and both are in large format bottles and clock in at about 10.5-11% ABV

yeah the bombers came out a year or two ago, when they used to bottle it in 12 oz bottles it had a best buy date of 7 years out. I would buy them all, at least the regular I can't vouch for the oak.

I'm definitely headed back tomorrow for more... you guys have me convinced. I won't being buying out their inventory though, as I'd say they easily had 20+ bottles of each.

Oh sure, I would get some small bottles of water from the same store and use a few as decanters but that's my way.

Went back and got 3 more of the Oaked and 6 more of the regular. Checked out for under $35 bucks. As long as they're drinkable I'll be feeling like I got a good deal. I couldn't find any kind of dates on the oaked horizontal bottles, but the old horizontals had an enjoy by date of december 2019. Weird that they were marked down to $3 with a date 3 years in the future stamped on them.

I've done a bunch of tastings with vintage Old Ho's. 8 years is definitely over the hill. fresh bottles for me are too hoppy. the sweet spot is about 4 years.

Just recently opened a 2002 Old Ho and it held up very well! Both beers hold up to age very well in my experience.
