I can't imagine a trip to Portland that didn't include a trip to the Horse Brass and a trip to the Cascade Barrel House.

If you plan on eating more than just bread and butter, you can get it at a lot of places in this city and for a lot less than $2.50 (think: free).

After a painless train trip from Seattle to Portland we went to the hotel, and went exploring the NW part of the city, walked south on the 21st to Burnside stopping on our way at Pastasworks, Trader Joe's and doing some window shopping, had lunch/dinner at Elephant's Deli where I had an 21st amendment Brew Free and a SN Hoptimum, then went north via the 23rd window shopping with quick stops at Moonstruck and Tea Chai Te. Finally arrived at Lucky Lab where I had a super dog and a Black Sheep, headed back to the hotel.

On wednesday we went to the zoo and the IRTG, since my wife loved Elephant's Deli we had lunch at the on the park location there I drank an Union Jack, after lunch we walked on the pearl district, went to Whole Foods where I grabbed a Supplication and a Flanders Fred, went to Rogue and had a sampler, we made stops at Cargo Imports, Anthropologie, Powell's and some other places I can't remember right now, walked to Voodoo passing by Bailey's (didn't go in :slight_frown:) after Voodoo went shopping to Pioneer Place, catched the streetcar to Cool Moon and went to the hotel.

On thursday went to OMSI, then HOTD where I tried a sampler of the 8 beers available on tap and ate a brewers plate, then went to Cascade, had a small pour of The Vine, Apricot, Bruin and Summer Gose. Went to Lardo for a burger, walked a bit before catching the 14 bus on our way to 45th, walked to Horse Brass Pub where I had a RPM and a Vortex, then went back to the hotel stopping again at Cool Moon!!

On friday we moved from the NW to Residence Inn at Lloyd Center, we went shopping all day

On saturday I went to F.H. Steinbart to buy some hops, met my wife at the mall (again) to do the last minute shopping. Checked-out from the hotel where they took care of our luggage. Went for a burger, a Widmer Hefeweizen and a Tricerahops to Red Robin and then to the airport, at Laurelwood I tried a Portlandia Pils, a Geerhead and a Space Stout. Catchet the flight to San Francisco and then the flight to Mexico City.

Arrived really tired but also really really happy!!!

Well, that's because BM charged $3 less per bottle than Belmont Station, so all the geeks charged over there as soon as it was posted on FB. This is a fairly common pattern. If you're willing to overpay, you will commonly find things at Belmont Station for a while (sometimes a long while) after they have sold out elsewhere.

Fair enough, but I don't consider paying 3 extra dollars to be able to pick something up at my convenience "overpaying."

I'm not rich, but I earn more than the theoretical $3 an hour I could lose by ditching work early just to pick up a beer at a slightly cheaper price (or even $9 an hour assuming a 3 bottle per-person limit).

And if you're coming to Portland for vacation and only have time for one stop, it's obvious that you're going to go to the store that offers the best chance of having stuff in stock.

On a $12 item, that's 25% more. And it's consistent through their whole selection. If you're going to buy a number of bottles, it adds up quickly.

Well, clearly you need a job with flexible hours :stuck_out_tongue:, not really my problem and not something the visiting vacationer needs to worry about either.

    a) the OP sure sounded like he has time for more than one stop.
    b) Basing your argument on getting lucky with timing and finding a very limited, very popular release which sold out even at Belmont Station in a couple days, seems like questionable advice for someone here on vacation for a short time.

FWIW, your argument might have been more valid a couple years ago. When they first opened, Beermongers had a somewhat hit-or-miss selection. However, they've done an awesome job since they opened of developing relationships with distributors and brewers and at this point, other than the Belmont Station Anniversary releases, I'd be hard pressed to think of anything they haven't gotten in that Belmont Station did (and for a noticeably lower price).
