I can confirm that Eat Bar has Pirate Bomb at $22 a bottle. I can also confirm it was delicious.

 

I was told that they were not being sold this year in bottles only kegs Which is a bummer because this beer was freaking amazing, especially for the price point, i couldn't believe it.

 

I have one I would be willing to part with. you wouldn't happen to have any Veil, would you?

 

yeah, you're probably right... $5 seems too cheap though... like maybe it's past it's prime? how did it taste?

I totally agree! I opened up a bottle over the weekend and enjoyed it a lot more than I did when I had it at the brewery the day it was released. That beer was so green and that grassy flavor needed to dissipate a bit because there was some good stuff going on in there. As much as I enjoy uber-fresh IPAs, beers that taste like grass clippings are not exactly my forte.

 

Saw Double Duckpin was brewed last week or so. Anyone know if it will see NOVA distro this time?

Back in early December they did have them in NOVA. I picked up a 6-pack at TW or Dominion, don't remember which. So I would think they would be available in NOVA.

 

How does 3 Stars #ultrafresh compare to Aslin or Veil haze? Any info on if that will see distro? I see they are canning it.

 

Not in the same ballpark. Someone on the last page was spot on when they said it tastes a lot like the new/improved version of Two to the Dome. That is, serviceable but certainly not up there in terms of the better local IPAs.

Dominion usually gets Double Duckpin when it hits distribution.

 

Yup I bit the bullet and went and got it last night too. Very tasty. Obviously I knew I was overpaying for it, but I figured after buying beer to trade and paying shipping to a trader it would have been just as much.

 

Having had Ultrafresh and Two to the Dome side-by-side at the brewery last weekend I much prefer the former - way more of a juicy tropical fruit/melon character and hop aroma. Haze aside, I'd hesitate to call it a true "juice bomb" in the vein of Trillium though - the bitterness is more pronounced.

Not quite in the top tier for me, but I thought it was a pretty solid entry overall, and better than most of 3 Stars other IPAs I've had to date. I heard they're releasing Ultrafresh batches at various points during the summer so hopefully I can check out a later run to see if they've tweaked anything.
