Why? Unless HPB is against opening stuff on a release day, which I would and I hope everyone else would respect, you just bought the can from the brewery. It's not like the can was stolen. I was there that day someone opened a can of Hello LA and shared it with people. Most people who tried it were curious what it was like out of a can compared to directly on draft. The single can was probably shared with 10+ people. It wasn't like people were opening a bunch of cans. Now, I would totally see your point if cans were being opened left and right of a beer that was on tap but in this case, as far as I could tell, it was one single can of Hello LA.

I'm pretty sure the BPT thing will never happen since they don't have much incentive to do so. The suggestion, at least on my part, comes from a place of frustration. I'd like to buy the beer, but have no interest in participating in the process because of all that it entails. I'm ok with that, though.

I got there at 11:08 am or so and was maybe 10 people behind where they stopped handing out wristbands for the full allocation. They sold out of 1L1L maybe 10-15 people before me and by that point they had also reduced the 4-packs for SDF from 4 to 2. So, you could have pulled up around 1:30 pm and purchased the same amount that I did without waiting 3 hours.

It's their brewery, they should definitely do whatever they feel like doing in terms of how to handle the releases since they'll sell out but an online release with no proxies and a same day pickup would have been better in my opinion. They could staff someone just for can pickups and instead of everyone there all at once and waiting for hours, it'd be a good flow throughout the day. Like I said though, it'll sell out regardless, this would just be my preference if it were up to a vote, which I know it isn't.

Sooooo, how many of the last releases of Monkish stuff have been opened in the tasting room to try side by side with the stuff on tap vs. out of the can? I haven't seen any. Folks are pretty respectful on that regard even if Henry has popped open bottles of other stuff in past can releases.

I think it's just a bit of respect that you aren't cheating them out of the pint pour. Especially since they're making more per ounce in the pint cost than per ounce out of the can. Given that you're also using their establishment's space, it's just common courtesy in my book.

That being said, the beers were both tasting awesome so I'm glad I got to at least have a couple pours of 1L1L.

i saw someone break open a Supa Dupa Fly can in the tasting room on Sat. i kind of doubt it was to do an analytical side by side tasting but more because they didn't feel like waiting in line and were in the mood for a beer

    agree that it's disrespectful

Is there a link to this sale? Don't see anything on Eventbrite now.

I typically don't partake I'm the bottle shares in line but when the employees walk by people with coolers counting and don't say anything it's really hard for me to care.

The beer line bottle sharing is usually nothing more than a dick measuring contest. a bunch of beer geektards trying to outdo each other. No thanks.

I see your point. I wasn't there this past Saturday at Monkish but I talked to an employee there on Sunday and they said that a few hours in people were cracking cans left and right and in my opinion that wasn't to compare side by side. That was just to drink more beer in order to avoid getting in line or just to get wasted. Based on that, I'm totally on your side but I really do think that the Hello LA can was merely just to compare. In my experience, the cans typically taste a little different from the draft version. If Ross or Henry etc didn't allow opening stuff onsite then I would totally understand but Ross seems cool with it on release days before 6pm. This doesn't say I condone opening 40 bottles on a release day. That is obviously excessive but I'm good with opening 1-2 "nice" bottles each and having a great release day.

Also: Let's hope it stays respectful but I did see some videos of people chugging outside beers on Saturday and then I heard about the opening of multiple cans as well later in the day.

I saw someone driving out of the parking lot with a can in between their legs that was in the process of being opened. Also, saw some guys that were at the front of the line get their cans, walk over to their buddy who was close to the end of the section that had wrist bands where they cut in line, open cans they had just purchased and proceed to drink while they waited for the line to move so they can buy more cans.

People are gonna do what they are gonna to do, but cutting back in line after getting a full allotment makes my blood boil. That's the type of stuff that people need to be called out for because to me that's pretty black and white its something you don't do.

I saw the same guys get back in line while openly drinking either in a plastic cup or straight out of the can but figured they were just chatting with their friends who came later. Did they really wait to get to the front and buy more cans? I know they were some of the early campers because they were near the front.
