I'm the same way, I also still love trying new beers even in the macro beer categories. I also agree many of the cheaper macros are better than the big boys.

Gawd, I must be old!! Coors was new to Oklahoma and we didn't have to drink Stag or Goetz any more.

That's what I try to tell the young'uns today... maybe PBR was slightly less nauseating than Lone Star but the difference didn't make for a very good debate.

I primarily drank Milwakee's Best Light in college because it was $10 a 30 pack. Yuengling would be my splurge beer. I still occasionally drink Yuengling and like it quite a bit, but otherwise I've replaced Beast Light with everything else I drink.

Honestly, I didn't upgrade much. I was never a fan of AALs, especially since the unofficial beer at my college was Natty Light Ice. My 21st birthday we went to a brewpub, and the first pack I bought was Sam Adams Cream Stout. I didn't drink much at all before then, maybe had half a can of that Natty, and felt worst after that than after a 6-pack of Sammy.

I started drinking in College in 1999, and I drank a ton of Bass and Guinness.

If I had to say upgrades, Bass became Anchor Steam, and Guinness became Founders Breakfast Stout or Dogfish Head Chicory Stout.

These days, its mostly Bell's Two Hearted, All Day IPA other local stuff. On rare occasions I still manage to order a Guinness.

parallel path, our frat kept all the major vendors happy, of course I went to college when Coors wasn't available in Louisiana, so
    Bud & Miller HL->Bud Light & Miller Light->Shiner->Wine->Good beer
During those Bud and Miller days, there was a lot of 40's mixed in King Cobra, <Any 40 Malt liquor>

Pennsylvania Style Ice - Natty Light - Bud Light - Miller Lite - Lionshead - Miller High Life - Yuengling- Sam Adams - Sierra Nevada - that pretty much opened the door to craft beer LOL

Still enjoy the occassional Miller and Bud, won't touch Natty.

Ahh the good old days at the fraternity

Hamms, Schlitz, Old Mil, Mil's Best, Keystone, Schaefer...pretty much whatever was on sale. The "fancy" beer at that time would have been Molsen, Becks, or St Pauli Girl. Sam Adams was just starting to gain some traction when I graduated, and a few brewpubs were starting to open, so those were probably the upgrades afterward. The 90's really saw massive improvement on the beer scene.

Started college in the late 70's (not a lot of selection in those days!)

Genesee Cream Ale - Still love it
Falstaff (5 bucks a case in those days) - I'd drink it for nostalgia if available!
Miller High Life - Still buy occasionally when on sale for post grass cutting etc.

Craft beers pretty much didn't exist so I guess my interest in them just happened as part of my evolution as a beer drinker.

Pretty sure the package store we went to during college in Boston was run by ex, or current, cops. We'd get 30 can cubes of Busch Light for around $10 and be set for a night of Beirut, Quarters, Asshole & Circle of Death. Man I miss those days.

Oh, right, to answer the question.... Busch Light ---------> Zero Gravity Green State Lager.

I graduated college last friday, and so my tastes really haven't changed I'd like think I was drinking some pretty good stuff. Working at a brewery helps too. Have been known to have a Tecate from time to time though and yeungling was always a staple

Completely agree. Beer after work, beer with dinner, special occasions = craft.
Concerts, parties (not very often), beer pong, golfing (just played 9-Holes last night) = light.

I kind of converted my girlfriend into a craft beer drinker, and now she gives me a hard time if I drink something light. I have tried explaining this "function" type reasoning to no avail.

Freshman year: Shopping carts full of $.79 a sixer of Ballantine Beer, some Schlitz, and an occasional Lowenbrau draft at Lums; some National Premium.
Sophomore year: Ballantine, Schlitz, Ringnes (Norwegian and cheap), and more and more Lowenbrau.
Summer after sophomore year: 3 months across Europe and no more Ballantine or Schlitz for good.
