Bad Shorts bottles?

I got some bottles of Shorts while I was in Michigan a couple weekends ago (from a friendly BA, in exchange for some Wisconsin beers). I also found that my bottle of Superfluid had kind of a weird, almost spicy flavor (kind of like broccoli, which I hadn't considered until I read this). I also had a bottle of Juicy Tree, which was entirely delicious, and I've had some of their beers in that past that were also great. So maybe it is a recent quality issue. I just hope it doesn't color them the wrong way, especially if this is just some kind of unfortunate coincidence.

 

there is a flavor in Superfluid that makes you go hmmm?. I grabbed another 6pk last week and it's tasting the same as when released. I had some Funky Buddha Mango Dipa on vacation the week before Superfluid dropped and when I had my first sip of the Fluid it hit me as Mango. I don't think it's brewed with mango, but the hops are producing that flavor.

 

I can definitely see where folks having Shorts for the first time might taste/smell unusual.

As another poster pointed out earlier, all Shorts brews, and in particular their APA/IPA have a certain smell and bitterness unlike any other brewery I've ever tried. I think it works very well for some of their offerings, Superfluid and Dans Pink Skirt in particular, but not so much on some others (I'm looking at you Huma Lupa).

 

I was excited this hit Ohio and grabbed a sixer of each on Monday. I have to say that there definitely were off flavors. Not impressed.

 

My 6 pack of Huma tasted like lawn clippings. Truly terrible and very disappointing.

 

I have to admit, the part of me that rubbernecks at traffic accident is really curious about a broccoli flavored IPA.

 

Bought a 6er of space rock last night that definitely has a vegetal off-flavor. I drink a good amount of hoppy beers from shorts, and this just seems off.

 

Picked up some cans of huma in Ann Arbor. Same grassy / veggie flavor. Not sure if this has made its way back to them or not...but this is beginning to be an issue.

 

Picked up some cans of Huma in Ann Arbor as well.. something vaguely vegetal, a noticeable musty funk.. I assumed it was just my palate.

I got a six pack of Huma cans this week (dated 03/23/16) and it was definitely more grassy/herbal than I remember. Not bad, just different.

 

I just picked up a sixer of Huma cans and was pleasantly surprised. I am not a huge fan of Huma, but had to pick up the first batch of cans. Didn't notice any off flavors and will buy again.

 

I've been buying Huma quite a bit recently (both cans and bottles) and haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary. Drinking one from a can right now (dated 3/30) and it's great. Really great, actually. Why haven't I been drinking this more often.

Holy crap, just came across this, I thought I was crazy as well. I got some traditional IPA elements, but these are some of the more odd notes I took away when I had the following:

Huma: Smells like raw broccoli, body odor, and pine. As it warms, it even starts to smell like cooked peas with salt and pepper. Tastes like asparagus covered in resin.

Controversiale: Flavors of light pine, with bark...walnuts, and peanuts? And mushrooms?
