Thank you. I liked Copper Kettle when they first opened, Copper Mezzina and all their German styles were solid. Then they started cranking out so many gimmicky fly-by-night beers that I moved on.

    I can't remember funkwerks having a buzz since 2011.

Buzz is overrated. As long as they are selling enough beer, that's what matters.
New Belgium doesn't have much buzz these days.

The amount that hype matters probably varies on your business plan. Are you packaging or distributing? Are your styles approachable for new craft drinkers? Are you shooting for geeks only? Where are you located? How big are you now and how big are you wanting to be? Are you banking on a flagship to "keep the lights on" or are you making new beers every month? What are your costs (and labor) related to different beers vs. others?
It matters a ton for some places and almost none for some others. With Funkwerks, I think when they opened, they were a pretty geeky niche. As time has passed, I'd say their beers have become approachable to the masses. Not due to recipe changes, but just the nature of craft beer becoming more mainstream...at least in CO.

Yes. I have found myself offering Funkwerks beers to non-beer drinkers because I think it translates over from wine quite nicely. I feel like it has pretty broad appeal.
