I enjoyed the original Ground Control enough, but none of Ninkasi's barrel aged stuff has impressed me in the slightest. If I have a craving for a good local bourbon barrel aged stout, I can buy a bomber of Oakshire's Hellshire VI for $5 less and be much happier with my purchase.

FWIW, Ninkasi's IPAs have gotten a lot better. Total Domination is still not very good, but Hop Cooler, Tricerahops, and Dawn of the Red are all good beers. I'd still advise against buying that package, though, as assuming the two extra bombers were the same price as Ninkasi's regular bombers, it would cost $20 less if they were all bought retail, at least going by what Ninkasi costs here.

I've already bought it. At $69.99 that breaks down to $8.74/bomber. I generally spend more than that on the bombers I buy anyways in Ohio. Plus it included shipping, that was the big kicker for me.

Love Dawn of the Red but thumbs down to the rest.

Had a bomber of Tricerahops when I was out in Napa, not bad

I'm not sure if you are referring to the quality of Old Forrester or the time spent in barrels but if it's the latter I wouldn't be so quick to assume that. I heard Avery only ages their beers for short periods of time (under a year) and their Uncle Jacob's and Tweak are absolutely top tier...

I was referring to time spent in the barrels. It seems the longer the beer ages the more barrel flavor will come through. My favorite BA beers tend to be aged 10+ months. I've been disappointed with beers that are only aged a few months like some of Stone's BA beers and especially this Ground Control. I didn't get any barrel flavors at all from this. It tasted just how I remember the original to taste. Even Stone w00tstout, which is a very similar beer, has more barrel flavor and they only blend in a small percentage of barrel aged beer into that one.

Ninkasi makes some pretty nice shit. If this show's up in GJ, I'll buy some for sure. As to Old Forester, Signature (100 proof) for the price (well at least in UT, $23 for a 750ml) is some of the best bourbon you can get for that price, hands down).

    Cheers!

My usual store told me they got a case of this in today and asked if I wanted it. I checked the price and it was $21 to which I also passed.

Yes it advertised space yeast but can you even taste that?

While I do enjoy the barrel aged version, as I said above, I do agree that it is priced a bit high. And yes, I believe the whole 'yeast went into space' thing means nothing (or very little) in terms of the taste of the beer. It is a bit gimmicky, but I'm a space nerd so they got me. Probably won't buy another though.

I had it on tap last weekend, and it was pretty much as I expected it to be. It's not bad- certainly better than the last barrel aged beer I had from from Ninkasi. If this were half the price, it wouldn't be a bad buy; it's on par with some lesser BBA stouts I've tried from breweries like Hardywood and Payette, but at this price, it has to compete with the best BBA stouts I can find out here, and this pales in comparison.

I think it shows that Ninkasi is getting better at barrel aging, though, so who knows- they might make a version that's worth the price in the future.

Well look what was found at a local Costco in Shoreline Washington.... To be fair to Ninkasi Brewing, this isn't a bad deal at all

    I think that's still debatable.

Ha ha @beernut. Yea, it may not match up to a $10.99 Parabola at Costco, but can't lie.......I grabbed one today.

Still much better price point than the $24.99 Ninkasi Ground Control still seeing around town.

Rogue and ninkasi should collaborate on a beer and simply call it haters gonna hate. Seriously funny how some people hate on this two breweries but they both produce many quality products some bad ones and gimmicky too yeah but mostly quality.

They should make it an adjunct beer that's pretty common like a coffee stout, so we can see people shit themselves pretending that coffee beers are somehow too weird to drink.

This is hands down the worst barrel aged beer I've ever had. I had it on draft at a reputable beer bar and had a hard time finishing it. I needed the liquid courage, otherwise I would have left it. So very awful.
