Got hopstache and beard of Zeus for $9.99 in Hillsdale. I've yet to see Ocho de mayo. However they oddly just put oddsides java mint stout on the shelf, wonder if they forgot they had it? It was worth the gamble at $5 a six pack

I think it was @ScottatShorts who posted in a recent thread in this forum that the brewery puts a 'hold' many beers after bottling and before release to the distributors to give these beers time to condition to reach the peak flavor that the brewer intended.

Short's doesn't need to hold anything back, the distributor does a fine job of that. Just got a couple bottles of huma and space rock fresh of the truck and both were dated mid February. Always check bottle dates even if you personally see the delivery guy wheel it into the cooler

    Here is the post....

We are careful to brew the specialties at the appropriate time. Certain products are made fresh while some are better with some time on them. Goodnight is one of those as well as the upcoming Mr Fusion and Melt My Brain. Hopstache is after that and would be better fresher as was Superfluid which we tried to get on the shelve within a week so even with delay in purchase and ultimate consumption it would still be awesome.

Of course we always want you to enjoy the experience so let customer service know if you ever have any issues.

    Thanks

    Scott at Shorts

I was mostly referring to what appears to be an issue at the distribution level. When "fresh" Huma on the shelf is already a month old.

My store had a few cases of the Java Mint sat out this week as well priced at .75/bottle so it looks like the distributors are dumping inventory.

I like this method far better than letting old stuff sit around. I've scored Bells Smitten and Founders Dark Penance this way in the past. I'll buy just about anything at $4.50/6!

Pick up a couple sixers of the 'Stache yesterday. Can't wait to indulge in my favorite Short's release of the year this weekend.

Just passed on Hopstache at $14/sixer. Seems like all releases used to be $9.99-$11.99. #MichiganOnlyMichiganForever?

I can check but I do not think we have changed pricing in 3 years.

I paid $14.99, same as with every Short's special release at the place I go to. Think I need to shop around.

You gotta shop around. Place by me will have the limited releases for anywhere from 11.99 to 15.99 (like Hopstache). I go a couple miles down the road, it's two bucks cheaper. I go even further to the Busch's near me and they've got the best pricing on sixers in the area. It's out of the way, but if I'm buying a full six, I'm heading over there.

You do need to shop around - Shorts Specialty releases are widely available in so many stores in our area (SE Michigan) this year. I have a place by me that always tags $1.00-$3.00 above the going rate for Shorts Specialty beers (as well as other beers) I rarely buy beer from this place and last time I was in there they asked me why I haven't been in lately. I pulled up the press release from Founders on their Mango Magnifico which clearly states an MSRP of $10.99. They had it for sale for $13.99 - I told them this is why.

There are plenty of stores that don't mark up their beer prices - just gotta find one that is convenient for you. Mine happens to be close to work rather than by home.

More importantly, did you walk out after that or did you stay and buy their beer?
