I'll be in Davis for 3 months working as a travel nurse (from June to Sept) and am driving out from NC. Just curious what the best breweries/bars/bottle shops are to hit up in Davis and elsewhere around the Sacramento metro area. Of course I will be making the drive over to RR and Lagunitas at some point(s).

Also, I do plan on bringing some NC goodies with me (depending on how much space I have in my car), so any local BAs who might want to crack some bottles sometime or hit up local beer spots feel free to shoot me a message.

Rare Barrel / Fieldwork are only about an hour south down 80 from Davis area.

Of Sacramento breweries I've tried, I like Device.

I second The Rare Barrel (Berkeley) which is only an hour away.

Ol' Republic Brewery (Nevada City) is an hour and a half away from Davis, but they make really good European-style beers. Their California Common/Frontier Amber might be my favorite beer of all time.

For beer bars, check out Capitol Beer and Tap Room (Sac) and Burgers & Brew (Davis/Sac). B&B typically has Pliny the Elder on tap, and also a house imperial brown ale that's pretty tasty.

Berryessa Brewing will be your best friend on the weekends. Blue Note is Woodland is turning out to be a solid spot as well. Check out the Sacramento Area threads on here for lots of info.

Bike Dog in West Sac is EXCELLENT. Revision is opening soon in West Sac as well (ex head brewer from Knee Deep).

For sure in Davis as others have said, hit up Davis Beer Shop, and Sudwerk (Dock Store, NOT the restaurant). Berryessa is close and excellent.

You can day trip up to Sierra Nevada (1 3/4 hour), or into the bay area. Ton of great stuff in the East Bay.

Sacramento has a ton of very good spots, and some decent spots.

They are actually opening up a Fieldwork tasting room in Sac, so the OP might not need to travel very far to try their tasty brews. I think they are aiming to have it open by mid to late summer.

Three mile brewing just opened a spot a half block from DBS, their stuff is OK. A journey up I-80 to Knee Deep is worth it, as is the drive to Fairfield to hit Heretic. Also love Berryessa, and have enjoyed the Blue Note stuff I've had as well.

For bottle shops, other than DBS in Davis the Coop, Nugget Market (Covell location), and Whole Foods have good selections. Corti in Sacramento off Hwy 50 also has a great selection.

I work on campus, and have some good local and OR stuff in my cellar and would be down for a IP trade. Let me know what style(s) you like.

Thanks for all of the info! It'll be good to have a nice list of places to hit over the 3 months that I'm there.

Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar are the best! Trying these liquids from other areas of the state/country/world is the best thing ever! :stuck_out_tongue:

As has been said before, Burgers & Brew has a decent taplist and a good house burger. It was the first spot in Davis to offer a solid craft beer selection. There is also a University of Beer there now, which has a very good selection as well. Delta of Venus was always a favorite hangout, not a great beer selection, but it has a very "Davis" vibe.

Woodstock's Pizza also has a good beer selection. I remember it was '07 or '08 I went there and they had Deschutes Abyss on tap. They didn't know what they had and neither did anyone else it seemed. I'm pretty sure they served it to me in a pint. Things have changed a lot in the craft beer scene since then.

Unrelated to the beer in Davis... eat all of your meals at The Dumpling House. And say hi to Jenny. You'll know who she is.

Consider following the aforementioned Davis beer shoppe, Capitol city beer and taproom, and final gravity on Facebook/Instagram. They are the 3 biggest beer bars in the Sacramento area and all get the hard to find bottles. Old town pizza in Roseville (there are a few OTPs) burst onto the scene a few months back with great bottles and great draft selection. These places have awesome events as well. I'll echo Berryessa & bike dog as great breweries and add track 7 and knee deep (a bit of a drive from Davis to auburn but worth it once).

I'd be happy to contribute to a bottle share at some point once you get settled....

Davis Grad has quite a few beers, too.

Take advantage of your time here to get out of town and enjoy the West Coast. Amtrak to the Bay Area is super easy.

IMO all 4 breweries in Davis are very solid and worth a stop. Nothing to really blow your socks off. Super Owl, 3 Mile, Dunloe and Sudwerk.

Depends on style you seek, but I've had good beers from all.
