They filled my growler logo covered with tape before. So yes no problem. I think they will tape it for you for an extra charge? Maybe a buck or 2 extra? Or tape it yourself.

Why do they charge an extra $2 to fill a blank growler that doesn't need any extra materials?

I couldn't agree more. They genuinely seem to care about doing right by their customers, even though at this point, with the hype train at full speed, they could easily slack off.

Same reason why restaurants charge a corkage fee for something they don't have to even store? Realize that growlers for them are a way to advertise and generate at least some sort of value. It is what it is. At least they fill non-monkish growlers. be happy about that.

I would argue (in your support) that it costs money to have people fill growlers. They generate money (even if it's very little) from sales of their own growlers to help pay for these people. Consider it a charge for your own convenience.

I understand this comparison but kind of disagree with the intent. Restaurants charge corkage because they arguably make the highest margin of anything sold on premise from alcohol sales. Their whole business is selling food and beverage.

A brewery is in business to sell beer, in which they have their appropriate margin built. They aren't there to sell glass. It's just weird to see a brewery implement this practice when everybody else that fills blanks doesn't. Those other breweries are just more than happy to sell you beer.

I believe it's only those who bring in a uncovered logo on their growlers. If you bring in a covered logo they will not charge you extra. Covered, uncovered, x$ or not. It's still a good thing that Monkish will fill other growlers as well as their own. Other states you can take your growlers and get filled at WFs, TWs and other places. Just be lucky the ABC has let up somewhat on the laws here in CA. Noble is another place doing the right thing. BL as well. I wish a few places will reconsider.

I think the cans of SDF are tasting better everyday since the release. The day of pickup they tasted like they needed a few days and now are drinking awesome. For some reason the 1L1L was really good day of release and now tastes a bit less juicy, IMO.

Anything that discourages the use of a reusable container, whether it's a branding limitation or fee, is short-sighted.

This may have been discussed ad nauseam in another thread, but is it brewery policy or law that prevents consumers from using whatever growler they want? I was recently in Seattle, and I was shocked at how many different types of containers breweries would fill. It didn't matter if it had the logo of other breweries, if it was glass or stainless, or if it was screw-top or swing-top. It was amazing.

I believe the volume is part of their license. For example if their license states they can fill 32oz and 64oz, they cannot fill any other sizes. The container type (screw or swing top) is up to the brewery.

I'm on target to get a B.S. in Treehuggerology in a couple of years so you're right on the money. :grinning:

I haven't read up on Washington's alcoholic beverage regulations, but going by what I know of California's, as long as certain guidelines are met, breweries are allowed to fill any sealable container. The code isn't so specific that it states a brewery must follow a specific template, but there also isn't that much wiggle room to allow for a wider range of containers to be filled. Couple that with breweries putting sustainability at the bottom of their concerns, you get what's happening here in California.

I was under the impression that they could pretty much fill whatever size they wanted as long as they got label approval first and it was properly indicated as to what volume was filled at the time of the fill, i.e. checking the label as 32 or 64 oz on a multipurpose label like many have started doing.

Wish more places would offer fills for 750ml growlers - seems like a perfect amount.

Double IPA and an IPA release on saturday. Usual 12pm release time.

Wonder what the amount is going to be and if it'll last past 1:30 pm like last time. Might not be a point in waiting in line for hours if you can just go around 1pm and wait fifteen minutes and get some

Nah, I doubt it will be any slower. The weekend that all the shit was happening down in San Diego with Mikkeller and Abnormal, as well as a SARA release up north, the beer sold equally as fast as normal.

Unless they increase the allotment and not increase the amount limited to people, it'll still probably be gone in the hour or so.
