We're going to be spending a few days in St. Louis then central Missouri visiting my wife's family next month. I'm probably going to get the chance to visit one brewery in St Louis so I was thinking of 4 Hands. Looking mostly for some recommendations on beers I can bring back home with me. Currently planning on something from Piney River more because my wife is from Bucyrus and it immensely amuses her that the town her family used to make up half the population of now has a brewery. Any must haves? Thanks!
I've got a buddy going down next week as well... I've asked him to get some 4 Hands peanut butter milk chocolate stout. It's fantastic.
Just be aware that 4 Hands gets very crowded during Cardinal homestands because it is very close to the stadium. Other than that, look for my previous posts of STL beer stuff and you should be good to go.
Thanks for the heads up, just checked and looks like they'll be away when we're going to be in St Louis.
Logboat Brewery from Columbia is some solid stuff. If you see any Rockbridge Option 2 that is also delicious. Of course Perennial, 2nd Shift, and Crane are all other bottles to be on the look out for.
One brewery visit in St. Louis is not enough. Besides 4 Hands you should probably try to stop at Urban Chestnut (very solid traditional-style beers), or Perennial (sours and big stouts).
I guess it's hard to find 4 Hands peanut butter milk chocolate stout. My buddy can't find any anywhere down there right now.
They changed the name of it and tweaked the recipe a bit and it's now called Absence of Light. I could be wrong but I believe it is just a fall/winter release. I know I was at the brewery last weekend and they didn't have any that I could see. That being said you still maybe able to find some on shelves
Thanks! I was just in Chicago a few weekends ago and picked up a bottle. Maybe it was turding, but I was more than happy I got it after I tried it!
Stop by Side Project in STL if you have time, good stores around there to bottle shop are Friar Tucks and Craft Beer Cellar. You might keep an eye out for Boulevard 750ml bottles that can sit here like Rye on Rye, Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout and Saison Brett. I've found each of those in Price Cutter/Walgreens/etc. One that may be MIA by now but if you see it pick it up - Mothers MILF is awesome!! And I have found it in random gas stations before waaay after it was released. And as always - beeradvocate-> places-> wherever your going-> sort by rating.
The peanut butter milk stout is seasonal, might be gone until the fall. There are a ton of other threads on here, search for them and don't skip Side Project.
Yes MILF is good stuff but not available in St. Louis City or County. It would require a bit of a drive to even be in a market where it was distributed and it sounds like the OP may be limited on time.
