Is it telling that the everything still appears to be available online (20% of stock sold this way)?

Does anyone know if there are still Brew Gentleman items left from the release this past weekend?

Foshomo sold out Saturday apparently. I'd imagine II is still hanging around. Need to swing by there tomorrow for a bottle.

Was there first thing Saturday. Foshomo sold out within a half hour as far as I could tell. They started w 192 bottles and it was 4pp. Doesn't last very long. Oh and it's delicious!

It looks like Steel City Beer is bringing Pizza Boy beers to Pittsburgh this month. Has anyone seen them around?

Thanks for the good Pittsburgh suggestions. I have a gameplan in mind now, and it will be awesome.

One other question. A few folks in my potential group heard of Church Brew Works and said that it looked interesting. From what I can tell, though, the beer does not seem that great. That said, I don't want to be the dictator if everyone else wants to drink in an old church.

So, how is Church Brew Works for beer and food? Good? Tolerable? Avoid at all costs?

Tourists always seem to love Church. Mostly because of the location. Would I go there? Probably not. But would outsiders be happy with it? I'm sure. Food is much better than the beer.

They do have some great food there. Their shrimp and grits were awesome.

It is a really fun place and isn't very far from some other options. Food is good (especially the pierogies and mussels) and the beer is getting better IMHO. Have a good time.

those are both places that go outside of the local wholesalers to get beer so they are not a good example of pizza boy being distro'd in wpa.....

We are definitely a popular tourist trap in the city. In large part due to the building itself and our longevity (this is our 20th year open), we get a lot of people directed our way by the hotels, convention center, and Visit Pittsburgh visitor center.

We usually aren't counted among the best in the area and I think that's more than fair, we are working on some things that we would like to improve, but at the same time, we have a certain demo to appeal to that is decidedly non-beer geek.

I like to think of our beer as somewhere better than tolerable, of course I work here, so everyone can have their own opinion as well, I'd honestly like to hear if you end up coming and have a miserable experience for any reason. I hope that isn't the case of course but there is always room for improvement.

I think we have a couple solid examples of more classic styles, we tend to do a decent number of lagers. We have 11 beers on draft, plus a cask from Thursday until it kicks on Saturday or Sunday. Our flagship beer Pious Monk Dunkel is a nice Munich Dunkel that is approachable for a wide range of our customers that may have never had anything beyond light beer. Our Celestial Gold is a nice German Pils as well. Mad Brewer Maibock is currently on, it is a multiple GABF award winner and a great strong lager even if maibock doesn't really get my rocks off personally. Lastly, Coconut Stout, a popular seasonal goes on tap June 2nd. I'm not sure when your trip dates are, but if you want to send me a message, feel free and I can let you know what will be on tap when you get here.

The one thing I will say about us over a lot of other breweries in the area is that we can easily accommodate large groups, we have a restaurant and full bar if people happen to not even like beer and just want to eat in an old church. We are open every day of the week starting at 11:30am for both lunch and dinner. If you are coming with a group, we are one of only a few in town that have a full menu, so if your group isn't particularly made up of beer people used to the tap room and food truck kind of setup they might feel more comfortable here. I'd recommend pizzas from our wood-fired oven, but there are plenty of nice food options.

If you look at the website, I apologize, it looks like crap and the new one is supposed to go live any day now.

All that said, sorry for the long post, I would also recommend making a point to get to Brew Gentlemen and Voodoo in Homestead, and if you do end up drinking at CBW, Roundabout is only a couple miles away.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the reply. Beer is about being cool, and you guys seem really cool. Looks like I'll just have to hit multiple places on this trip

who was lucky enough to get to try this Maple Brukfust from brew gentlemen? i can still taste it this morning and am disappointed after just checking their draft lineup that its gone already:slight_frown: I am a big fan of coffee and maple treatments to stouts and this one was a winner! on par with angry chair coffee german chocolate cupcake with a little maple but more coffee than anything. that coffee bitterness is my favorite part i think and i dont even drink coffee!! foggy mountain was a chugger too....keep up the good work BG

Maple Brukfust was damn tasty. Too bad I was the driver the night I went, so I only had a taster of it. Hoped to go back and get a full pour, but it was gone quick.

I know it's not the hot ticket it used to be but GEMD shadyside had about a case of DFH 120 on the shelf. I bought a couple at $8.99. Also about 12 bottles of Uncle Jacobs. I passed at $13.99

I enjoyed last year's version. Nothing earth shattering but a solid beer and gives you a reason to drink more Humboldt Range.
