That's probably my favorite from Avery at the moment. I wish it was just a wee bit cheaper

Well it has been year round for quite a while in Florida, parts of Alabama, and Puerto Rico long before it was in CA. Will they have it in South TX next year? That would give me an option in the RG Valley.

I snicker, and said Uberon! That is a 10% barrel aged version of Oberon.

I learned something today! Wasn't aware of Uberon. I only get Bell's when we visit our daughter in Kalamazoo so my experience with their beers is not extensive. I understand they are coming to Texas next year so...YaaaaYY!!

    Oh, Lord!

Well, it is either a lagered ale or a warm-fermenting lager. At least it uses wheat!

Because it's a Hefeweizen and has a totally different, independet history and flavour profile compared to british inspired top-fermented beers......

So, are there only 2 categories of beer, ale and lager? What about Geuze?

I go by the old saying that if something looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck then it is probably a duck. So perhaps it's verboten to call a Hefeweizen an ale in Germany but it's always been acceptable etiquette here.

Usually I see it at the Eccentric Cafe or at festivals. It is not a production beer, but keep your eye out at tap takeovers when they come into TX.

Great question - especially for summer drinking.

Depends if we're talking Pale American Wheat or hefe. If we're talking the former, Gumballhead, Bell's Oberon, or Half Acre's Akari Shogun. If we're talking hefe, have to go with Ayinger's Brau Weiss or New Glarus Dancing Man Wheat.

And if something doesn't quack, doesn't look like a duck, but swims , we should call it duck? Great. Let's call all fish duck then. Brilliant idea.

Calling a Hefeweizen Ale just because of the top fermenting yeast is annoying and should not be accepted ettiquette anywhere...

    Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier hands down.

Some runner ups would be Victories Moonglow, Bell's Oberon or Lagunitas Lil Sumpin Sumpin.

Most of my favorites have already been listed. It's a shame that Winter Cheers is a seasonal. :stuck_out_tongue:

I find that the best wheat beers are the ones you can get fresh (if done well in the first place). I'm quick to grab a local/regional wheat beer for this reason.

I'm sorry for all of you outside the distribution area for August Schell... their hefe (ale or not) is top notch!
