What beer are you drinking now? #1316

When I was young we only had vinyl, and tapes with recordings from vinyl
One of the favorite pieces of vinyl I owned in the 1980's was Born in the USA. Played it over and over. Don't have a turn-table (or vinyl) anymore, so have to improvise a bit here.

Now onto an Alesmith Hammerhead Speedway Stout. At the Henry St Taproom in Saratoga NY, great selection!

Southern Prohibition Jack the Sipper ESB



Appearance: Clean burnt umber. Nice egg shell cap with consistent lacing.

Aroma: Very malty in a good way, earthy, spicy hops in an undertone. Some caramel notes.

Taste: Ah, yes, this is an ESB, make no mistake about it. Full, rich malt flavor seasoned by rather than dominated over by hops. Toffee with little roasted malt bitterness. In fact the bitterness I note appears to come from the 45 IBU hops. Clean finish with tasty malt rather than hops apparent.

Texture: Rich malty texture, medium to full body.

Overall: A for effort here. They have managed to capture some of the best features of ESB with a hop crispness that overcomes malt sweetness. Very good balance. The sort of thing welcome around my house anytime.

 

Don't worry, they can and do come back periodically. We were empty nest once for 6mo, then our son came back, then our daughter came back during grad school, then our son left and this weekend our daughter is moving out and we'll be empty nest again. This time could be permanent, but both are working and living nearby. A bit traumatic the first time, but you'll get to like some aspects of it.

 

It's just a saison kinda spring weekend here

Its hot as hell out, but not as hot as this grill is about to be.

I'm a huge fan of Ramstein, and have loved every beer I've had from them. That said, this one is a tad disappointing. It's not bad, its just missing that little extra to make it great. Still, one that is real nice to drink in this hot weather. Cheers!

3 hours of yard work down the drain. This beer is absolutely delicious. Perfect after sweating my ass off.
