Lol, thanks man! Other half is an hour away, plus hours of standing in line, just not that interested anymore unless it's the kind of release I can go around noon, be out in 2 minutes kind of thing. I was really interested in trying ADE but traded for a few cans instead. Not saying these beers or the pils won't be great, I'm just saying I don't think it will be remotely close to last weekend. People see names on collabs like trillium and cellar maker and come out in droves, the answer may be a great brewery but it's not nearly as popular

No Layups has the potential to be one of their best beers.

Definitely not $4/can exceptional though. I almost never mention price but that's truly hilarious. Suparillo was also incredibly disappointing, but The Answer is supposed to be dope so maybe that collab will be good.

Based on Galaxy, Motueka, and Wai-iti being delicious and OH using all together in a hoppy beer. Second Anniversary was one of the best beers they've done and it featured (among others) Galaxy and Wai-iti. Galaxy was noticeable in both street green and city slickers as well. Green Diamonds is definitely a delicious galaxy beer. I'd say each time they brew a beer with galaxy there's a chance we get to drink something awesome.

edit: and as poster below me said, Answer is cranking out awesome beers (though probably under the radar).

Agreed @RobNewton. Answer puts out world class IPAs and Berliners. Excited to try this one.

Why is $4 a can so outrageous? Can you name me a pilsner with a comparable hop bill on the market at all? If so, what's it go for?

It's outrageous for any number of reasons. For one, they've never made a pilsner before and therefore have no track record. Second, pilsners aren't nearly as popular as IPAs and therefore don't have the same demand; higher demand drives a higher price. And unless you know that it uses a massive amount of hops I'm not sure it matters what the hop bill is. Their session IPAs and Superfun! also use a variety of hops and all sold for less than $4/can.

This is all putting aside the fact that, in general, $4/beer is pretty outrageous no matter how you look at it. Obviously that's where we are in craft beer, at least for IPAs, but that doesn't mean it's not objectively outrageous. I don't really complain, and gladly buy great beer in styles I like for well over those prices. But a pilsner is not one of those styles. And ultimately, this is likely to be a hopped-up, bastardized pilsner. If Grimm's version with Victory wasn't good I really have no confidence that Other Half can make it work.

Everyone will decide for themselves whether to buy. I just find it really hilarious that this is priced where it is and will sell out and be traded all over the country for (likely) far superior beers.

I guess I understand folks from out of town coming to OH to grab cans (sort of), but I haven't been super impressed by any of OH's new releases recently. ACE was really good (not great), Telectroscopic, ADE, good. I won't wait in line for any can releases, I have the luxury of half a dozen bars pouring this stuff within 10 mins of me. I wish OH stuck to its staple beers like single hop Mosaic, Green Diamonds, AGE. Best NYC beer I've had lately is SSMS by Singlecut...just ridiculous. I grabbed a few bottles and have been super happy.

Agree with every point here. They are kind of just taking us for fools now bc unfortunately people will still line up for an untested beer that will probably not resemble a pilsner at all (besides fermentation).

Can't disagree with most of what you have here, but I don't agree it will be trading all over for higher quality beers. Not a chance of that I don't think, well at least not on BA. The pilsner will last until Sunday I would imagine, and the folks grabbing loads of it in hopes to flip it for Treehouse or Trillium will be sorely disappointed.

Where can you get a pint of craft beer in NYC for less than $4?
