Had an email from Eebria this morning:

"One of the best-loved small breweries in the country, and for good reason. Old Chimneys produces the best imperial stout in the UK, Good King Henry Special Reserve. Usually, this beer is released just once a year, but they kept some of the 2011 batch back for further aging. Carefully matured for 5 years, these last bottles from 2011 are sure to be truly great.

Along with this, Old Chimneys are also releasing two brand new beers:
    • King Alfred's Cake - A Baltic Porter fermented with a Belgian yeast and featuring liquorice, pear drops, milk chocolate and the 3Bs - blackberry, banana and bubblegum. Compared to Good King Henry it's fruitier and hoppier, but with less chocolate and coffee.
    • Walnut - Coloured malts make up nearly 40% of the grist for this Brown Ale resulting in flavours of toffee, caramel, malted biscuit and walnut (as well there ought to be given its name!)."
It's my birthday this week, so I think some strategic placing of the above information may be in order....

Wow, think it's gone already. It was available when I looked earlier! Now "coming soon".

On a completely unrelated subject, I'm visiting a pal in Bury (home of the black pudding - not St. Edmunds) in a couple of weeks.
I'd like to get him off the wife beater for one night. Anyone know of any good watering holes around those parts?
Obviously Manchester is a short naked jog away, but I was hoping to find something more local, if possible.

Been a while since I've been to that fine market town but I'm sure the Black Bull on lowercroft road though I think it's more good boozer pub than craft alehouse if you were thinking of Kolch & Saison as a intermittent step from cooking lager

Has anyone else been to a Draft House branch? There is one close to my work at Old St. and I'm surprised by the selection. Their prices are a bit much, though. I was finally able to try the Beavertown/Founders Molecular Mayhem and then followed it up with a Cloudwater DIPAv3 and have to say I prefer the DIPAv3. It's much more complex and a bit sweeter to me.

Yeah, been to the Charlotte St and Chancery Lane ones. Good selection usually, but yes the prices can be high. Chancery Lane does Pilsner Urquell out of the tank though which is pretty cool.

I liked the Tower Bridge one. Nice staff, and the 3 3rds for a fiver deal Mon -weds cab work out as great value.

Last night had a KBS and a Kernel IPA Galaxy Mosaic, both of which were outstanding.
Tonight I popped into pigs ears beer cellar in Richmond with a co-worker and enjoyed pulled pork in a bun with pints of Arbor Oz Bomb and Summer Wine Golden Gate Double India lager. Picked up some Czech lagers, Mikkeller Beer Geek Vanilla Shake and Cloudwater White IPA Mosaic from Real Ale to take home too.

I hadn't planned to go the Belgian bar
What I wanted was to peruse the bottle shop
Bier Cell and their bar Morte Subiete
But tge shop was closed and the bar wasn't open for half an hour
After the the floreff blond I had feullien tripel
and on the way out I had De Koninck pale
(Which kind of annoyed me because when I went in I asked the barman if there was anything around 4% & he shrugged saying he only knew about beers he liked and he only liked Belgian blondes,I found it strange having my host being less knowledgeable about beer than myself) and a bottle of Tournay Noir.
I went into Morte but I was backwards on my planned route so hadn't reached the place I was going to eat so was starting to get a little worse for wear
I had Feullien Saison and Green Flash West coast IPA on draught whilst getting a carry out of bottles of BD Jack Hammer, which never appeared in our local Tesco :/ ,
    De Molen's Vuur & Vlam
    Gueze Mariage Parfait 2012
I'm sure I had another draught beer there but I couldn't say which one
and I had a pint in the Market Tavern but at that point I could have been drinking Toby light with Marc Bolam
So having the standard prescription of full fat milk coca cola bacon bap aspirin ibrufen and cocodomol

Thursday's beer was an imperial stout from tiny rebel. Picked up last weekend but 8 months past best before date. Good 9% beer, nothing more nothing less.

    Felinfoel Double Dragon
Flavour is malt vinegar and a whole lot of water
Tastes and feels like slightly carbonated dishwater
Has it been nerfed to sell it at Aldi?
