Agreed ... and hence my previous comment ->
Hello ... 2012 is calling and they want their bottle release logistics back!

BPT or EB <- just do it!!

This is what they did at Younger this year. If you weren't there for the wrist band when the came through (5 minute option), you didn't get a wrist band. I freaked out because the GF went to go get a bagel and coffee right as they started doing that.

They also have security walking the line every 30 mins or so.

Again, as much work as policing the line and coming off as the bad guy killing some dude's good times. Going to BPT or EB for these can releases will increase the amount of work they have to do to get product in hands. Hell, another brewery is playing with the idea of selling them directly off the canning line, as it will be a short cut for keeping them stored and moving them blah blah blah. You see, no one wants to keep these cans for long. And EB/BPT will mean potentially sitting on cans and distributing them off some list. More work.

The other solution to that stupid excuse of "i went to my car" is simply having someone walk the line 5-10 minutes prior and make the announcement that they're doing wristbands in 5-10 minutes. DO NOT GET OUT OF THE LINE OR YOU WONT GET ONE.

That or maybe move to Friday afternoon releases instead of Saturday like HPB has done.

If they know their canning schedule and don't want to sit on product why not schedule a bpt sale a few days before canning since they roughly know their yield with a specific release date. 1 day pick up window ( release date)

if they yield a lot more just sell them in the tr like they did with spock it

Don't think that'll happen. Other business going on Friday. Much more busier than Saturday. Plus they open at 2 I believe.
The last weekend that Citra bottle release at KRBC Kyle came outside around 9am and announce that he would be coming back out to give out tickets and taking names down on paper for bottles of Citra. 77 tickets were handed out 20 minutes later. That gave enough time for those who left to get back in line. But not enough for those line cutters before the 9am announcement. That was KRBC's last time (weekend) for Citra bottles before the lottery.
Again...these guys...Monk knows about the drinking and line cutting that's going on but refuse to do anything about. Scared? Or don't give a sh!te? BPT it and give the people a week to pick up the cans. But they don't open till 4ish and the 405 is a nightmare by then. Maybe they (MONK) needs to start handing out wristbands at 8 or earlier if need be. But no...they have no clue.

How is it done at HPB on Friday releases? Is there a line a 1pm when can is released? I've never been to HPB period. Might have to check them out of these days.

Because yields can't really be fully predicted. Some cans don't get filled all the way, or the label gets ripped off of others. Pre-selling it even before it gets canned is just a bad idea. Especially if it doesn't turn out the way they want it to like that one "too west coasty" beer and then what would have happened if they had pre-sold those cans? Got to go through with it or refund everyone money while still getting dinged for bpt/eb fees? yeah.... not happening.

A week window of picking up the cans just is too much time for product to sit and like any bpt, there will be cans left over. It's much more work than they already are doing currently.

+1 on BPT/EB day before release with no proxies and 24hr pickup window. Any remaining cans should be treated like all the bottles that are available for sale regularly.

I honestly don't know buy why is this different than bottling and online pre-sale?

Using Alesmith as an example, they don't really post up for sale until the same week as pickup. I think with bottles you would tend to fill and store for a bit whereas the can IPAs seem to be more fill and go. So at least with bottles they should have a yield already determined since the bottles would likely already be filled.

Here's another thought... Just sell an allotment each day at the brewery. Once you reach a point of always having some cans available for sale, some of the hype/interest will go away.

One 4 pack per person per day. Done.

Is it really a thing for breweries to be lacking in cellar space/walk-ins? I realize places like HPB and Monkish aren't very big, but I'm really puzzled at the idea of a brewery lacking the space needed to store beer for a few days. At the rate that these beers sell out, let's not act like they'd sit around for more than a few days either, especially if you specifically state the pick-up window is short (24-48 hours).

that's a tough first step though. Allotments per day means that the first wave of weeks will have lines every fucking day. And like already mentioned, that industrial parkway has other businesses that you'll piss off if this turns from a saturday when most of us are closed to a "you're fucking with my business daily" thing

Fellow Squid, I think it's a bit of an issue when the breweries are so tiny. But also because of the type of product that has a ticking clock on it. The real issue is the "what if we have to sit on this?" in terms of a pick up window that never gets acted on, then you have product that you need to worry about. Not to mention that if you do a 24-48 hour window, that does take time away from the employee to have to print out, cross check and maintain a list above of their other duties. But then you also have the couple dozen of emails you have to deal with trying to extend or just flat out forgot about the window and are now demanding or causing grief about their money.

It's not much, I agree, but these little things do add up and considering an hour or two of work to clear out everything in one quick swoop is what they have been doing, I think the alternatives don't have much incentive for them to implement on their end.

i don't foresee it happening but i too wish they'd consider doing something like this. same with HPB (at least for beer friends?).. if it wasn't for my girlfriend being cool enough to stop by for me i would have missed out on the last 2 HPB can releases, and that's my "local" brewery (at least one i live pretty close to - Silver Lake kind of counts)

I'd say wait a week or two after canning. Why the rush? Maybe they will lower prices with less demand

why dont the first person bring in a marker, write what place they are in line and pass the marker down. If this happens at every release, it would catch on. Just an idea for people who cant speak up and defend their own place in line.

Those of you asking for BPT/online sales and 24hr window don't understand that Monkish does not have a lot of cold storage. In fact, when they can their beers they have to move stuff around in their walk-in to make enough space to keep those cans, usually 2-3 pallets lately, nice and cold and fresh for the release day. It's much easier for them to, on a Saturday, prep up the sale area by the roll up doors and right before opening get a pallet jack and bring the pallets of cans to the front area and start selling them as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Having a 24 hr window would mean the following:
    - not having enough space for storing kegs, hops, fruit, other stuff that needs to stay cold because they are storing beer cans
    - having to deal with people e-mailing saying their car caught on fire or something important came up so they need to pick up past the 24 period. But then you say, well they forfeit it. So now they have to deal with storing cans they thought they sold (storage issue). Plus so many other issues with having to forfeit beer, etc.
    - having to have at least one employing dealing with verifying orders and walking all the way back to the walk in and grabbing each order while their tap room area is jammed with people. Let alone the possible line back up of people waiting to pick up orders randomly throughout the day then the complaining of having to wait to get your order completed....

I'm probably missing more issues with it but you get the idea (hopefully)

It sucks to have to wait in a line for fresh tasty beer cans but I just don't see any other way to do this for all the reasons I mentioned above. Any brewery right now that is putting out cans that are in demand like this will always have to deal with a line and all the issues of beer lines these days.

BPT sale is for an event that starts at 12pm, that event is a can release party. Tickets to the event entitle you to 2 x 4-packs of the beer. The cans come off the canning line and right into party-goers hands, no need to even move them around. If you can't be there at 12pm for the party, don't buy a ticket.

If you don't show up, your cans are turned over to the tasting room where of course they will sell out in 0.001 seconds.

Won't this end up with people lining up for their cans the same? Yes, yes it will. But your allocation is guaranteed, line-cutting is impossible, and the parking lot bottle shares end.

I like this idea. But as someone mentioned a few posts ago, what happens when the canning run doesn't result in as many cans as they expected?
