King Alfred's Cake is fantastic, very highly recommended. It's a stout with quadrupel like qualities.

Visited Cafe Beermoth last night before watching the mighty red roses crush the white ones from over the Pennines. First time I've been to the bar - brilliant place.

Had my maiden KBS! Which was predictably fantastic. Oneka from Napatbier - a decent saison.
And a Kismet IPA from Mother Earth Brew Co, which I really liked. Juicy, thick, dank.

Had the latest Jack Hammer variant from BrewDog...Black Hammer. Black IPA version. Loved the dark malt addition, didn't get much hops though

That's what does me napper in about black IPAs, they're neither nowt nor summat. I don't want to be distracted from the hops by roasty malt notes. The sum is definitely not equal to the parts.

    Siren Undercurrent
    Mumbles Oystermouth Stout
    Moor PMA
    Moor Union Hop
    Moor Nor'Hop
    Moor Hoppiness
    Moor Old Freddie Walker

Bar man said he liked Siren beers but not the price. Agree @ £3.20 a half !?! The Oyster stout was £1.90.

Hopped out at Moor. PMA was the stand out but all were top notch. Was walking like Old Freddie Walker all the way home

Popped into my local beer shop today and noticed that they had Brewdog Jet Black Heart and Prototype Milk Stout. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the JBH meant to be the updated version of the PMS? Bought both and can confirm that the Prototype is the better beer.

I do bt think that Jack Hammer was meant to have those sulphurous notes
and spent the majority of yesterday in horrendous pain
Due to crippling stomach cramps :slight_frown:

Went to the Beavertown pub take over at Beer Kat today. Was happy to find Heavy Water on tap, love those cherry stouts! Also had another Molecular Mayhem and a St Clements Phantom (lemon and blood orange Berliner Weisse), which was very lemony and I quite enjoyed it.

Bevis, my like was in sympathy, not liking you having cramps, just to make that clear

On BIPAS, I think they are best when they are just black and have no roast notes whatsoever, so a bit of a novelty beer if you will. I do like hoppy porters/stouts etc on occasion, but they tend to have loads more body and malt flavours too

Fourpure Shape Shifter IPA has been a recent highlight, can't recommend it enough. Hope the Northern Monk Heathen IPA matches up.

England trip begins this weekend. Looks like the only pub within walking distance of our accommodation (Swiers Farm) is the Miners Arms Pub in Matlock. I'm hoping they have some decent beer there. Hoping for a day trip to Buxton Brewery at some point next week. The following week I'll be on the Isle of Man and it seems that there is a little town called Peel that is just 2 miles away. Hopefully some decent bars in that town. Excited to be over there!!

Couple of cans of Red Stripe and a can of Northern Monk Heathen IPA which is incredibly juicy.
