Happy Birthday, @TongoRad! I've been looking at this beer on BeerMenus all week wondering whether I should bite. Based on your recommendation I think I will.

This really was a nice beer. If I had this to drink all summer I would be a happy man. Thanks again.

This brew pours a dark brown with red highlights when held up to the light. There is a very fluffy white head most of which sticks around until the end; little lacing.

The smell is full of sweetness; sweet malts, candy, bubble gum, wheat, black cherry and molasses.

The taste follows the nose with with lots of sweet malts, candy, bubblegum, plum, molasses and wheat all blended together very well. This beer is pure sweetness. A malt bomb. The feel is slightly oily on the finish. No booze leaks through into the finish. Recommend you try it.

Here's hoping you enjoy it as much! Just expect more dessert wine and less potpourri than the label would suggest.

Thanks for all of the Birthday wishes, everyone! Fortunately for me, I happen to be one of those people who is always mentally 25 years old, which can be a blessing. My wife, otoh, doesn't quite agree...

Thanks @JackHorzempa for the pinch hit!

Picked up this one on a quick beer run in Austin earlier this week:
    Hannssens Artisanal's Oude Kriek

Super sour, Oude Kriek tastes like lemon juice at first, then slowly opens up and has some pretty funky flavors, including hay and grain sacks and dusty oak wood. The cherries show up very little in the flavor, adding only a bit of earthiness, but there is some nice cherry sweetness lying low in the nose, peeking out from under the bigger musty barn, tart lemon notes.

There's fingernail polish in the nose, too, and I think I've figured out what that is -- a combination of super sour and oak wood aromas. The oak wood aroma is strong in this one, and it seems to leave a trail into the fingernail polish aroma.

    The review:

    3.85 (-4.9% rDev)

Fans of "sours" would love it, I think. I scored it a tad low because I'd like a little more sweetness from the cherries, which seems ready to join in at anytime but stays teasingly out of reach. One thing this ain't is sweet.

I used a little vacation to catch James McMurtry at the Continental Club doing his final Wednesday set for a few weeks. It was super cool seeing him and Cornbread so into it. You'd think they'd mail in their weekly gig and save their energy for bigger, more exotic sets, but they showed up ready to rock.

Got involved with doing some chores around the hacienda, so I didn't get around to a beer until now.

My second (and last :slight_frown:) Tyranena beer, this comes from @Ri0's now nearly wiped out box of Midwestern beery goodness

Not what I was expecting. I thought it would be a choco-bourbon booze bomb, but it was more subtle. Amazing how much Bourbon flavor can be packed into a 7.5% beer, and yet not be overbearing about it.

Not sure what I'll be having next. Not a bad problem to have, I suppose.:sunglasses:

Final act today is a boozy doozy I picked up at Sedona Taphouse a few weeks back.

    Founders Sweet Repute

Looks unassuming enough. Modest fizzy beige head, clear orange, maybe yellow. Only after you look more closely do you see that refractive quality of alcohol.

Nose is primarily bourbon, as if there's anything else in there, it's getting overpowered.

Taste is just, bracingly sweet and notably hot at the same time. How to describe the actual flavour. Well, there's bourbon, and what, cane sugar? Finishes with a slight hint of fresh Cavendish (sp?) pipe tobacco.

This is good but it's gonna be a wicked chore to take care of.

    Happy NBS everyone!
Stormy day here in South Carolina..sucks since today was my only day to go to the beach..way she goes I guess.
Was waiting to open this but figured why not screw it:rolling_eyes:
Westbrook brewing Leapold- Sour ale aged 12 months Sauternes wine casks then refermented on peaches and apricots.

L: light golden yellow. Super hazy. Small head disappeared pretty quick.

S: Like sour candy. Some light fruits peach for sure. Maybe some vinegar.
    No funk tho.

T: Same light fruits from the smell not too sweet or anything. Less tart than smell would make you think..tho still very sour.
Maybe a slight oak character. Just a Bunch of fruity lactic tartness.

F: Nice and juicy. Thick for the abv.

O: Overall its really good. Fruit is perfect..But lacking in funky complexities I was hoping for. Kinda one sided on the sour end.

    Cheers!

Very cool! I'd love to see McMurty live. He played in a total firetrap of a club a few years ago here, but I wasn't able to go.

Yes, B-25, in RAF colors. It was parked at an angle unfriendly to photography. I was working, so unable to get a good shot of it when it was taxiing up to park.
EDIT: The biplane in the center pic is actually the rarest plane present. It's the only flying Boeing Model 40 in the world, rebuilt by a guy in Spokane after having been recovered from where it wrecked in Oregon in the late 1920s.
