Carton Brewing (June 2016)

Gonna shoot up today for some cans of Galaxy and grab some Boats for tailgating at the Dave Matthews show at PNC Tuesday. First outdoor concert of the summer and Boat is the best tailgate beer. Really looking forward to trying Galaxy too. Been looking forward to that one

 

Pretty cool that Maloney's is on the art for the Galaxy can.

 

Hey @augiecarton - any chance SS Kentucky makes it's way back? Fond memories of what we bought the first time we trekked over to the brewery.

Don't worry about that, you'll bump into an employee no matter where you walk and they'll direct you. That place is awesome like that. You won't go more than 30 seconds without seeing one either as soon as you walk in.

 

Cracked a two week old growler of the warrior dubviant tonight. I think this is definitely my favorite and feel like warrior dry hop goes best with the "base" o'dub.

 

What is the regular odub? Is it dry hopped with anything? Citra?

 

I'm pretty sure regular Dub is heavily Citra, which is why there is no Citra variant. @augiecarton correct me if i'm mistaken.

 

Dub has lots of different hops. Also, Galaxy reaffirmed as my favorite. To use a term from our more metropolitan friends - it's a juice box

 

Anyone thinking Galaxy will have an issue lasting until Sunday?

 

Just curious.. how did Middletown wind up getting the Matawan beer?

we don't have a retail relationship in matawan and we have a 407 store long wait list for cans. giving cans to a new place out of the order of that list isn't how we like to do business, so we went with the closest store. truth is the dubviants are about bars, not towns. this is maloney's. like maloney's, evil clown was a carton partner from day one so we saw this as a way to be more involved with them. when we can do more we will

 

no more citra than amarillo cascade centennial and so on. there is a citra dubviant

 

Dub is dry hopped twice, both times through the rocket. the dubviants are a third, single hop, dry hopping

 

I went to Carton for the first time on Sunday and spent a couple hours tasting. Here are my impressions -

The tour was great. Very knowledgeable and passionate staff. Smelled wonderful!
The tasting room was super relaxing. No lines at the bar with the crowd that was there, but I could imagine it getting overwhelmed if there was a big crowd. Now, the beer...

Boat - Had it before and liked it, had it again and loved it.
HopPun - I loved the malt flavor backing this one up, it was bready rather than sweet, so thumbsup on this one.
BDG - So good, lots of hearty, easy to swallow flavors. I'd consider using this as a meal substitute.
Rickey - The only 'sour' I've had prior was a lambic and this hits the mouth a bit harder even, but not overly. Flavors hit every part of the mouth. Did I hear this is 7%? There is no hint of booze anywhere, lovely.
Nitro Milk - Not my style, but very drinkable. Felt similar to BDG, but not as multidimensional.
07747 - Great front front with super peachy back end. I prefer the base 077XX to this, but it was great nonetheless. One caveat though, I left with a 4 pack, and when I cracked one later that night each sip finished with heavy hops on the tongue (more medicinal than flavorful). I'm hoping it was a fluke as it was much better at the brewery.

Great job with everything Carton, I'll be back for sure.

What's the hop bill in 077XX? Seems lengthy. Not looking for specifics but I've always been curious.
