Growler Guys just had their 2 year anniversary party last night, with a pretty killer tap list. I think most everything is still on today. They're right next to Commons Brewing, so it would be no trouble to stumble on over for a glass or three.

Sure Bet: Arch Bridge Tap House. Second best bet: Tin Bucket. Outside chance: Food Front or Sheridan Fruit Co.

Hello BAs I'm going to be in Portland from the 10th-13th of this month and I was wondering of some non drinking (morning before the breweries open) things you would recommend to do in Portland?

I like the 4T Trail Loop, a self-guided urban hike which shows you some beautiful views of the city and includes 4 different modes of transportation: Trail, Train, Tram, and Trolley. It takes about 3-4 hours, so it's perfect for a morning activity.

Matter of fact, the 4T could work nicely with the suggestions @boralyl made: Grab brunch/coffee downtown, then take the MAX to the Oregon Zoo to start the 4T. When you finish the 4T, you'll be back downtown in time for lunch, Powell's, and beers.

The Mt. Tabor hike which @derftron recommended is another good one. And when you're done, you can walk down Belmont (or catch the 15 bus if you're tired) and have lunch at the Horse Brass Pub. (Or at Cheese Bar, which is really close to the NW corner of Mt. Tabor Park.)

+1 to Cheese Bar if you do Mt. Tabor. It's super close by (just a few blocks)

Hit the Alberta one around 11:30, it's right next to Great Notion which opens at 12:00

Or the one on Division, which puts you within shouting distance of Apex and The BeerMongers.

(Although if you _do_ hit the Alberta spot, you can amble down the block to Random Order for Salted Pecan Bourbon Pie. And you should.)

I think I've nailed down my spots for my trip in two weeks. It's a family vacation with kids, so really only hitting these places for a few drinks and also lunch and dinner. Any of these I should reconsider?

    PORTLAND:
    Breakside
    Fire on the Mountain
    HUB
    Ecliptic

I should also point out that we're staying near Mt Hood and looking to hit Pfriem and Double Mountain.

Also staying two nights in Bend at McMennamins School and looking to do 10 Barrel, Crux, Deschutes (tour and also the pub).

Bend Brewing Company. Great beer, solid pub food, beautiful patio overlooking Mirror Pond. Try the fresh berry cobbler if available.

Pretty tough to choose from your PDX list. I know absolutely nothing about FOTM, so I really can't comment on them.

Personally, I'm a big fan of Breakside beers, and if that was the most important criteria from your list, I'd say go there. On the other hand, I think HUB beers are pretty decent, and the food at the pub is very good (superior to Breakside, IMHO). Ecliptic beers are up and down, and frankly, it's been a while since I've had anything from them that really impressed me. Have not eaten at their pub, so can't comment on the food, but have heard and been told that the food there is very good.

As for Bend, I'd substitute Bend Brewing for 10 Barrel. Even if they weren't owned/affiliated with AB-InBev, I think BBC makes better and more interesting beer, and I prefer the laid back vibe at their pub to the hustle and bustle of the more upscale 10 Barrel pub. I would add that based on comments I've read in this forum, there seems to be some anecdotal evidence that there's been a drop off in the quality of the beers made at 10 Barrel since Ab-InBev took over. I wouldn't know myself, as other than occasional sample tastes of their beers at various events, I haven't bought any 10 Barrel beer since Ab-InBev became involved.

    Have fun.

10 Barrel's pub and Sunriver Brewing's pub are about a block and a half from each other. If waits are long but you're committed to eating there, kill two birds by putting your name in at one and walking to the other for a beer on the patio while you wait. Likewise, if Deschutes has a long wait, and you want to use that time to explore what else is close by, Bend Brewing and Silver Moon are within a few blocks.
