A couple weeks back I had a chance to grab some 16 oz. cans of Limited Access, Nawch Hoppa, and Bohemian Pilsner on the way back from a trip to Montreal. All three were great, especially the Pilsner which was exactly in my sweet spot (kind of like a slightly boozier SN Nooner). Back when they were mostly in bombers I remember thinking they were fairly mediocre, but they seem to have left those days far behind. Anyone else a fan? What a treat to be able to find such great stuff just sitting on the shelves with no drama.
Agreed! But, I've always been a big fan of the brewery! I haved loved a number of the bomber releases although some of them have been the rare miss. I just believe they don't quite achieve VT "cult status". Not really sure why though.
I remember Vermonster was one of the first big beers I noticed on shelves. Have not had one in probably 5yr.
I think I've heard similar sentiments from one or two others on these forums recently. I need to revisit them as I certainly haven't had anything from then since those bombers days. I remember liking a few beers...vermonster...a double smoked porter...just nothing that entered repeat purchase territory. Curious to try the pils, I see it gets a surprisingly high score for a pils on this site.
Visited Rock Art last summer and really enjoyed their beer, especially Limited Access and Notch Hopper. Didn't even have them on my radar before getting to VT. Passed their location on way to Hill Farmstead, so decided to stop in on way back. Glad I did. Went back a 2nd time while there after going to Lost Nation, while wife was shopping in Stowe. Preferred Rock Art beers over ones I had at LN.
They have really stepped up in the last year or so. RA has historically had 1 or 2 beers I really liked and a bunch of just ok stuff. Now, many tasty beers (and loving the Ridge Runner in cans). Big improvement in IPA's, and the pilsener is a wonderful beer.
Picked up a 4-pack of Limited Access at Hunger Mountain last month & wishing I grabbed more. Up there with the best VT DIPAs in that format.
Unfortunately some good breweries get overlooked in VT with all the overhyped ones. Rock Art was making good beer , if not great, long before some of the beergeek-championed stuff.
Rock Art has always been pretty solid. They have a creative lineup of beers and they are usually decent. I wouldnt say that they have any individual beers that would gather lines, but thats not the only brewery business model out there that works. Also, theyve had 12 oz bottles for a long time now, along with the bombers.
