Ale and lager are terms that can be confusing because there is some conflicting information depending on which country the information is coming from. Some call Kolsch and Altbier lagers as they are fermented fairly cold and they do go through at least some cold conditioning. I consider them ales as do nearly all non-German brewers/brewing educators. In this country, the difference is in the yeast. There are breweries kicking out lagers (albeit, not very good ones) in just 14 days. There are also plenty of ales that go through a rather long cold maturation (lagering) though, because they are fermented with ale yeast, they are most certainly ales. Barleywines and Imperial Stouts are pretty obvious examples.

If you're ever in the brewery during the week, feel free to ask for me and I am always happy to answer any questions or just chat over a pint. We do our best to educate our servers and they really do a very good job as far as learning what they can about the brewing process and the different beers that we offer. That being said, our brewing staff, as a whole, will obviously be more versed in these kinds of discussions.

I'm a huge fan of everything you guys are doing right now. I really appreciate you contributing/responding/educating in this thread and the Southwest forum. I'm looking forward to visiting in early October on my journey to GABF. Cheers!

I stopped by Tractor Brewing today to try the barrel aged beers but bartender said they could not do flights of the barrel aged beers and wouldn't provide samples. Interesting decision. I'm not paying $15 for a bottle of Tractor beer that I can't try beforehand. $6 for an 8oz pour of the same beers seemed reasonable but it's 90+ degrees outside and I was not in the mood for a barrel aged stout/scotch ale/barleywine. So jury is still out on these ones.

Marble now has Saison #2 on tap. Saison #1 was a Belgian Styled Saison whereas Saison #2 is a French Styled Saison. Not being much a fan of French Styled saisons, I didn't particular care for #2.

Also, this upcoming release from Bosque sounds great.

Just said today how excited I was about this next Bosque beer. Pilsner malt and Galaxy sounds lovely.

Appreciate you guys putting this together. Headed out to Taos early tomorrow morning from Austin. We'll be staying in Taos, but plan to make day trips to Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Will be in Albuquerque on Saturday and planing to go to La Cumbre and possibly Bosque. May go to Santa Fe on Sunday...

I'll add my thanks. I hit up Marble, La Cumbre and Bosque last Friday. Bartenders at La Cumbre really took care of me. Nice beer scene in ABQ.

Tried the Sierra Blanca Whiskey BA Stout....definitely worth $10 a 4 packs, $2.79 a single. Bought a single, contemplating going back to buy a 4 pack of it. Tasted sweet to me at first, but half way through the bottle that was no longer an issue.

I don't think I'd posted it in here yet, but Watermelon Gose from Boxing Bear is excellent. Great watermelon flavor, tart, salt aplenty and refreshing as all hell. Perfect for these 100 degree days.

I'd also recommend The Usual from Bosque. So damn good. Ditto Sunshine Stout. Bursting with cacao flavor. And I'm excited to get over there and try the Huell Melon S.M.A.S.H. I've enjoyed that variety in other beers and I'm generally a sucker for the honeydew/cantaloupe flavor in beers (Yellow Rose still the best example to me) and hope this hop gets its own dominant run like Citra and Mosaic.

Also, Ponderosa is bottling another beer, some sort of Golden Strong Ale. Who's gonna be the guinea pig again? Haha. I still haven't tried their sour saison.

I agree on watermelon gose. Really refreshing but I tasted honeydew or cucumber more than watermelon. Only knock was that it was really salty. More salt than I'm used to in a gose but that didn't stop me from inhaling a half growler yesterday afternoon.

Bosque Huell Melon SMASH is awesome. So much cantaloupe flavor. Some great layers. Went from bitter, to sweet melon (some berry perhaps), and the finished dry making you go back for more and more. Two pints lasted less than minutes for me. I still need to try Sunshine Stout. Slacking on that one.

I'll be trying the Ponderosa golden strong (named Preacher's Daughter I think) as long as its on tap. Those $3.50 happy hour prices are wonderful. Also nice that I live about a mile from Ponderosa.

Sounds like I need to get my ass over to Bosque for this new Smash. And that Stout.

...not sure how I could NOT grab a pour of The Usual while there too. I can't get enough of that one. I suppose that's what Growlers are there for.

No Usual at the Nob Hill location anymore. Save your taste buds for the Firestone Walker rollout on July 17....cause you know that's the last time we will see any of it fresh.

I think it was @toothirsty that said The Usual is running low, so get to San Mateo ASAP.

As for FW, people should treat that fresh Pivo Pils like a whale... so good and so hard to get. I had the unfiltered version at the Venice Beach location and damn, that beer can be incredible.

New project dank is pretty nice. Lemon drop and Citra hops. Citrus seems to cut through any perceived sweetness. I like it alot. I've cut way back on buying every release.

Has anyone try their bandido stout on cask? Aged on Bourbon soaked oak chips, cinnamon, smoke dried habaneros, and coffee. Sounds like a perfect winter beer. I guess you can't complain on the timing.

Has anyone seen marble pils around? Plentiful for a few months. Then June hits and even the taproom was sold out. I need my fix. For now, it's been 90% La cumbre beer, so thanks for that @erway.

Oh man, that sucks. Re: The Usual. All of a sudden my expectations for this new SMASH have shot up exponentially.

But this news about Firestone Walker hitting town more than makes up for the bad news of The Usual kicking. My fridge is about to be stocked with Pivo Pils, Union Jack, and Opal. Can't wait to to a side by side with Pivo Pils and Marble Pilsner.

I'm not so sure we'll see FW fresh even at the big grand release party. I also see NM buying a shit ton on FW initially then moving on to something else. Then FW won't send any of the barrel aged series until we buy up all the shelf turds. Same shit Avery is doing to us.
