I'd say 2 weeks would be ideal especially being on the east coast, and it can be done. Over a month I'd pass.

Thanks all. Now how do I lock this thread. I get the point, don't bother drinking it over a month old.

In the time it took you to make this thread, your Pliny turned into a drainpour. She'd dead Jim.

Living 2500 miles from Russian River, the freshest Pliny I've had is about three weeks old. It was fantastic, the best west coast IPA I've had. I've also had it two months old and it was average at best. Should I make it to the west coast (or Philly), I'd love to have Pliny on draft to see how great it can be.

Not to hammer this point home, but given how fast Pliny goes from awesome to just pretty good, this is another point in Heady Topper's favor. I've had Heady six months old that was still fantastic. More importantly, 2-3 months on Heady is really not going to hurt it, and from what I gather this is not the case with Pliny.

I traded for some Pliny once. Was a month old when I got it. I maintain that it's the nectar of the gods.
Had my last one a month after that so it was 2 months old, still just as good.

???? Pliny does not have a 'best-by date'.

Balance in an imperial IPA is a bad thing IMO. I want citrus and hop explosions.

Pliny within 2 weeks is orgasmic, but it is still an excellent beer up to 2 months. From there is starts to drop off, but still is very good.

    My opinion.

Like most intensely hop forward IPA's, it's best to drink within about 4 weeks, preferably sooner. I'd look for something else on the shelf if the Pliny was a month old or more.

Saw a bottle that was one year old. It looked like shite! Floaties at least 2" thick. My bud said he had bought it at Total Wine in RB a week before. WTF!! I told him to take that shite back and get your $ back. This was like back in May.

If you took the time to finish reading this sentence then your Pliny has dropped off.

Seriously though I've had 3 day old PtE and like 35 day old PtE and both a great.

This is the same for me, I stopped ordering it in the summer. Pliny does not hold up well being shipped in the hot weather.

If you see it on a store shelf, it's more than likely pretty fresh.

If you see it on a store shelf for more than $10 a bottle, it's more than likely not as fresh as my first statement.

We have a winner! Although I try to stay closer to that 2 week mark.

    Cheers!

Yes, but it's so trendy to say that anything over -2 days old is utter crap.

I agree that fresh is best, but people go way overboard on this whole fresh IPA thing.

Get yourself a Kern River Citra and drink it side-by-side with a Heady Topper!
