Made out like a bandit today. Came away with 3 growlers of Milkshake, 2 of MagoMago, and 2 of American Youth. That Pina Colada shake is super heavy on the vanilla and very mellow on the coconut... anyone else think so?

I had a glass at monks the other day and thought it had almost no vanilla, and also very mellow coconut.

I got a growler yesterday, didn't taste any vanilla and barely any coconut.

I didn't like Pina Colado millshake, honestly. I thought it has an unpleasant finish and the coconut was there in the aftertaste but not in a good way.

    MagoMago is all-around amazing though.

Who cares what it tastes like, what will it trade for when it's canned? I'm thinking a 4 pack of PC milkshake should get me anything I want!

Did anyone have both, the one first released at the Brew Cafe a few weeks ago, and the most recent one at the Fermentaria? I had the Brew Cafe and really enjoyed it. Definitely got the coconut and pineapple.

Tired Hands has what, 20+ different varieties of beer on tap at any given time between the 2 locations?

It has a negative connotation because there are no doubt a lot of locals (like me) who don't have schedules that accommodate an evening trip to Tired Hands to buy cans, but who like TH beer and would like to be able to buy it in cans. Knowing that people are thinking "Well, I don't want this but I can buy more to get other things for myself," rather than, "I don't want this so I'll leave it for someone who does to buy" is a little galling. It turns beer releases all across the country into a never-ending shitshow when they really don't have to be. And I think if traders are being honest, they'll admit that a big part of trading is for the thrill/satisfaction from landing coveted, limited beer from elsewhere. This area has the best access to craft beer through distribution of anywhere in the world, probably. Trading has little to do with wanting variety, and everything to do with wanting to get things which are limited.

I think my confusion centers around people who are actively involved in the craft beer community who think everyone else should be restricted to drink local only? I don't understand the mindset that somehow I am doing something wrong because your schedule doesn't permit you make it to can releases? That does sucks, but I don't make all of them either. When I do, I sacrifice personal time off because my job isn't the best for the releases either.

Why not both? And what's wrong with wanting limited beer? I am sorry, but this just feels like the haves vs the have nots, as far as Tired Hands goes. In a perfect world, people wouldn't trade beer, and every place would have a local option that is world-class. But that isn't the case, breweries drop new and exciting beers constantly, and the "scene" changes regularly (NE-style PA was not a term until there was more than 2 breweries making them). Demand > supply, simple as that, and if you can't make a release, you are a victim of limited supply.

There's nothing "wrong" with either trading or wanting limited beer. I don't think people should be limited to doing anything, but I do wish people understood that buying extra beer to trade not only denies people in the local market beer that they would like to buy, it creates additional demand for the beer that drives up the prices for everyone. It's behavior that has negative repercussions for people who aren't you and your trading partner. It also runs counter to the desires of the brewers, who would be sending their beer out in distribution if they wished it to be available in other markets.

I find myself sympathizing with people on both sides of this argument. I'm not a big trader and I don't go crazy for releases. I'll wait on line a reasonable amount of time (<30 min for me) but yeah, I don't like the shit show aspect of craft beer releases these days. Maybe as a middle aged dude, I just want to be able to walk into a brewery, buy some cans or bottles(cans preferably) and enjoy them. On the the other hand, obviously all traders are not douches lining up and grabbing extra bottles, and trading does allow you to get beers you can't ordinarily get. But trading does impact the scene by adding to lines, costs, and hype. That said, I'd like to get some Tired Hands and haven't yet, so somebody trade with me! Kidding, I'm going to make my way there this summer probably.

Well the "wrong" thing about trading beer is the whole "shipping it across state lines" part but we're already off topic.

Not entirely sure I agree with this. Didn't they have no 4pk limit of the Kalamansi at the bar at one point? I think they are more concerned with unloading their supply and making money as quickly as possible...However, I think they are doing there best to try and keep up with the demand. Soon enough, they will be big enough that there will be too much in the market and you will be able to get whenever you want - just look at Trillium, they are to the point where you can get most of their selection everyday of the week without any problems.

I don't know, obviously no one is ever going to fully agree. I just feel like craft beer and beer trading is just something that has been around for a long time and has just grown much faster than a lot of people anticipated. I completely understand how people can be jaded from the beer trade scene but I also feel like the beer trade scene has helped the craft beer community significantly.

OK. I am done thread hijacking.

Changing gears, I wonder what beers they'll be announcing for release tomorrow for people to hoard and trade?! :grinning:
Seriously though, I'm thinking Punge comes back around this week, or maybe even WeedEater.

Same here.. I think I've written off the idea that they'll do it. If they do, I foresee a two 4pack limit, and a line of chairs longer than the eye can see.

I thought that about the Milkshake series until they started canning them. Hold on hope!
