what is the labeling mandate for outside the state brewers? Hadn't heard that bit before.

The bottles/cans are supposed to be labeled as high abv, or something. It won't be a problem for new beers being made in state, but not sure what out of state brewers will do w existing beer.

I don't know. It doesn't really make sense when we talk about draft beer anyway. Who cares if the keg is labeled?

Edit: The more I think about it, it would be smart for the distributor or retailer to add a sticker. Good thinking.

Or, maybe people should think before they post things that add zero value to anything but could increase scrutiny on the good guys. Every single table at Fat Heads was collecting tickets as is required by law.

Nope, there's a real question about how to handle draft too. We'll see how the state goes about approval for labels.

If they stand to make bank, they'll make the labels. Adding stickers to labels would be a PITA, especially if they can be sold as singles. Think about this - tons of local and regional beers have information about the refund amount in Rhode Island even though they aren't distributed within 800 miles of RI. If breweries can add "high alcohol beer" in similar small print on the back, why wouldn't they? But what could get really f'd up is if another state had a different definition or requirement, then who the hell knows.

This is just my opinion on the whole label issue. So I could be dead wrong. But if the out of state brewers have to put stickers on bottles or re-label bottles/cans, then that might hinder immediate access to above 12% beers come beginning of September. This could end up being a good thing for the brewery's here in Ohio. It's not like Ohio Brewers can just muster up an above 12% beer in 90 days...right(please correct me if I am wrong)!? In a sense it would "level the playing field" for when these beers finally arrive. Simultaneously having out of state above 12% beers and in state above 12% beers hitting the shelf. Again, I could be dead wrong on this, but I don't think we will see above 12% beers the day(August 29th/30th) it becomes legal. Things don't seem to work that quickly...

Maybe. Maybe not. Depends on how each brewery and/or distributor handles it. Or what the state requires. Lots of variables that will work itself out I'm sure. To Jampics point it won't be hard for a brewery to add a line to a label moving forward. Seems like the easiest solution.

They could have something brewed and ready for packaging within 2 weeks. Doesn't mean they will. Getting things approved likely takes longer. Or working something into a rotation. Can it work into their existing operation? Again, more variables. Etc, etc. With 90 days notice they potentially could. It's likely they won't. But who knows?

    Pretty much this ^

There are already some >12% beers in tanks/barrels around the state. But the labels can't be approved until the law goes into effect, so you won't see any packaged "High ABV" beer at bottleshops or on draft at taprooms on 8/31 or for at least a few weeks (or possibly even months) after. Maybe something like a "High ABV" batch of Big Bad Baptist or MI KBS sneaks through but nothing new can be sold that day.

We could see something made in-house on tap at a brewery theoretically on 8/31 - the recipe approval process doesn't declare ABV (IIRC) and there is no label approval if the beer isn't distributed off-premise.

I'd imagine we'll have a few +12% beers in September...
    >Triple Digit, here in Cincy, started brewing such a beer the day after the law passed.
    >Jackie O's brewer has said they have a 15%er in barrels.
    >I'm sure we'll some releases almost immediately, such as DFH 120 Minute (which is a Sept/Oct release), Evil Twin stuff, probably Prairie Bomb!, ect.

Thirsty Dog already announced a couple too. Speaking of TD, the Sherry Barrel Wee Heavy 750's hit the taproom this afternoon. Not sure if they will see distro or not, but every other big bottle seems to.

Just read that Tallgrass hopes to start distributing by the end of summer. Really liked Buffalo Sweat. Excited to try some of the varients.
