Any other beer loving Athenians on this forum? If so, where's your favorite place to go for a drink in Athens? Also, know of any good beer specials certain days of the week?

    My list would include:

    Trappeze
    Southern Brewing Company
Copper Creek (especially on Tuesdays for $2 pint night!)
Brixx Pizza (Mondays their draughts are $1.95, and they have a pretty wide selection.)

I'm in Atlanta but hit up Athens pretty regularly. Trappeze is a favorite, as is Catch 22 Gastropub, and I love visiting Creature Comforts. I had a few brews from SBC at the Classic City Brewfest and they were awesome, I need to make it out to see them again.

I haven't been there but a lot of my friends recommend HiLo as a good beer spot. I hear they don't have a lot of taps but they keep good stuff on.

Stopped by creature comforts when we visited but was almost closing time and we didn't do the tour so we bought their stuff at five points bottle shop (twice, on the way up and way back from TN to FL). Cool place! Also saw some place that looked like a board game bar maybe? Next door/behind it

I work at SBC. It's definitely a hoppin' place both in beer and activity!

An Athens brewery crawl would make for a fun afternoon/evening.

Hi-Lo is pretty easily my favorite bar in town. I frequented Trappeze years ago, but they can GTFO with those prices.

I live in South Georgia and was thinking about taking a day trip up to Athens one day this summer to Creature Comforts and possibly Terrapin. Any advice from someone who has been to both breweries? Doable in one day?

Very cool. I'm one of the hosts of Beer Guys Radio and we've talked with Brian about having them on the show, we'll have to get that setup soon. The Fruited Foederbier was amazing and I love what they're doing with their yeast program.

Yes, you can easily hit Creature, Terrapin, and even Southern Brewing on a day trip to Athens. Just make sure you check their schedules and hours of operation to make sure all open when you visit.

Depends on the day. If you stay overnight in Athens on a Friday, all 3 would be easily doable. But Terrapin and Creature Comforts would be easy to fit into a Saturday afternoon. Southern Brewing is Athens' newest brewery and has some really cool shit going on including weekly Woodpile Tours featuring Foeder Beers. SBC also uses its own strand of yeast in several of its tasty brews. This Saturday there's a big Father's Day party going on and August 20 is the brewery's 1-year birthday party with a performance by Cracker. Should be pretty huge.

    Southern Brewing Hours:
    Thursday: 5:00 – 9:00
    Friday: 4:30 – 9:00
    Saturday: 2:30 – 8:00

    Terrapin's Hours:
    Wednesday & Thursday: 5:30 – 7:30 pm
    Friday & Saturday: 1:00 – 7:30 pm
    Sunday: 1:30 – 3:30 pm

    Creature Comforts' hours:
    TUESDAY-THURSDAY: 5-8PM
    FRIDAY: 5-10PM
    SATURDAY: 1-6PM

Sweet! It's a new group but one Athens has needed for quite some time. Cheers! If you come this way, let me know and we'll meet up.

Creature is in downtown Athens and their are lots of good restaurants and pubs nearby. It can get a little busy on Saturdays but it's an awesome venue. Cheers

Speaking from experience, if you're doing Terrapin and Creature Comforts in a single day and it's a day trip, bring a DD. Terrapin gives you 8 drink tickets and CC gives you 6. Basically you're going to drink like ~7 pints between the two. If you don't have a DD, get a hotel.

Holiday Inn is new & right smack dab in the middle of everything - good prices and great rooms.

I'm just outside Charlotte and we hit Athens once a year. Earlier this year we arrived and my car broke down, a long weekend turned into a four night stay while awaiting the fix on my car. What a great town to be stuck in. We always discover something new downtown, this time it was Seabear Oyster Bar. Oh snap - killer food.

Go to Southern Brewing as well as CC if you can only do 2 breweries.

In Athens for a few days, what bottle shops would you locals recommend? As well as food recommendations
