Which makes sense. There's no incentive for a shop to give it info over the phone.

All that's going to happen, is some guy that will ever return spends money at the store a regular would have spent anyway.

NvsU and Lizard King may just be the two best constantly available beers in Chicago (Gone Away is great but only 6 months). I love trying new beers but I need to remind myself from time to time that I can try a bunch of new beers and not enjoy any as much as those two from Pipeworks.

    100% agree!

Do hope they get the bombes eventually - I'll freely admit to buying about 75% of the bombers @NOTpipeworks releases.

Had Good Fiend on tap and it's very delicious. I was worried the rum barrels would be too strong but they are very faint. I would like to grab a bottle but it's not worth the run around.

Where did you have it on tap? I have a bottle but I'd prefer to cellar that but definitely want a fresh taste.

It was a part of the list at the emporium event during CCBW. I personally didn't see it up while I was there, but then again I went to the event in the evening...could have been tapped sooner.

My guess is that JFresh21 tried Good Fiend on tap at the Emporium Pipeworks Tap Takeover on May 28th.

Just saw Lizard King from 1/15/16 on a shelf...how does that happen?

I had Good Fiend on tap at the Emporium during the takeover, it was in the first round of tappings at Noon. I agree that I thought it was delicious, but I'm not a big enough rum barrel fan to track a bottle down.

I feel like places like Binny's have so much stock that newer batches come in and displace the old stuff (leaving it stuck in the back until the newer batch sells through).

With that being said, I have no idea how Binny's handles beer freshness (and don't mean to imply wrong-doing), so that's just been a pet theory of mine.

I'd be surprised if it was Binnys - I've never seen PW cans more than a month old on shelves there*.

    * I should clarify by there I'm referring to the Chicago Binnys, Elmwood Park and Oak Brook. So admittedly higher volume stores. Also there may have been some old close encounter stout around I don't know, but no LK, NvU, etc.

Although last week I saw war bird from last fall on a shelf somewhere. It was obviously a place that doesn't do a ton of high volume PW sales

My Lizard King that I just got was from 3/25/16. For someone who doesn't necessarily enjoy super hoppy hopness, that should tone that down a bit, yeah?

My friend went to Chicago in late April and bought a batch of Lizard King from 3/25/16. He just got it to me a week or so ago. Didn't taste any difference from the super fresh batch I had in early March.

What's your definition of supper hoppy, though? Lizard King isn't what I'd call super hoppy to begin with (it's Mosaic-forward, but pretty balanced overall), so you might not need to worry about it either way. And in general, I find that the majority of non-fresh (meaning past whatever time period they taste like they do on tap or just bottled) IPAs/APAs/DIPAs don't fare very well, because they just taste kind of off, and/or generic. Hopefully your LK won't be like that.

The artwork on the good fiend reminds me of Prarire

    Cool!

It was actually pretty decent! Had some nice sweetness that I wasn't expecting. I just assumed Pipeworks IPA = very hoppy. I'd definitely have another in the future, though it'll be a slow battle for me to really enjoy hops.

Did it seem like there was quite a bit less of BA Murderous than Good Fiend being distributed?

@NOTpipeworks Any idea when we might see some new merchandise available on the website? I thought you mentioned it awhile back, and I know I saw some shirts, etc. at some events during CCBW. I'd like to try and get my hands on some of that!
