This is almost as bad as the $100 per ticket Franklin BBQ popup July 1-3...haha uh oh.

I thought of this first. And to compensate me for my ingenuity and forward thinking, you owe me $110. Oh, and I'll be sure to throw in 2 more identical rocks that you don't want for good measure.

Man, is PF actually that scarce? (And is this store you refer to in the South Loop, perchance?)

Just curious whether anyone has any real first hand experience witnessing a true "truck chaser." I know that term is thrown around a lot, but I suspect most if not all the time it is really just vaguely referring to people who chase down a beer by calling the store frequently, getting intel on the exact time delivery arrives, and/or going to multiple different stores to get multiple bottles. Do people actually follow the truck around from store to store? How would that even work? From the time the truck arrived to the time the beer arrived on the floor or in the back ready to sell can often last an hour or more. Then you follow the truck and do it all over again at the next place, thus spending a total of maybe 2 hours of travelling and waiting time just to get two bottles? This is very hard for me to believe. This is a serious question by the way. And what if while you're inside buying the beer the truck leaves and you don't know which direction it went?

I love BAMCC, I have bugged one of the guys from Spiteful for that glassware, and I liked that BA Pigeon Porter when I last had it. So I personally like everything I'm getting. Would I have liked to buy just the bottle of BAMCC? Yes. But I hate truck chasing, too. I practically did it when they last released BAMCC and I missed out. So $110 to avoid the hassle of another truck chase is ok in my book.
I didn't agree with the cost of 18th Street's Barrel Massacre event, so I didn't pay. I voiced my criticism of it, yes. But I didn't feel the need to constantly voice my disdain of it. I love this beer community, but sometimes when even the good guys slight some people, out comes the angry mob and all the good they've done goes out the window. That's sad.

Rewarding their true supporters? Bit of a reach there. Someone mentioned a similar thing in the 18th Street barrel massacre thread. There are other ways to truly reward your loyal customers besides having them pay for an inflated package deal. And Joe Flipper and Sally Reseller who have never purchased a Spiteful sixer in their life had (have) the same ability to purchase tickets to this event as the "true supporters".

I can't speak to this, I can only parrot what others said in the BAMCC thread (when it hit distro). People said the the Spiteful distro truck was being followed from site to site (I would assume being followed from start to whatever the first retail location was). Whether that's true or not (honestly...probably is), who knows.

With that being said, if you doubt the fact that people will spend 2 hours grabbing 2 bottles (assuming they don't have mules or contacts near the stores who can buy more)...Well, let's just say it's definitely not a stretch.

These beer deliveries are always during the week. Don't these truck chasers work for a living?!? Jeez, I sure don't have 2 hours to spend chasing a truck on a Wednesday. :flushed:

Quick aside on truck chasing as it's a foreign activity to me. How does it work? I was browsing the Beer Temple selection in 2013 when KBS came in and it took a while for the store to even start selling the beer...far too long to check out and leave before the delivery truck did. I guess I don't understand how people physically do this. Seems odd.

Look at the upside, at least they are not including a f*cking tote bag. If I get one more goddamn tote bag, I'm going to fill it with bricks, put it around my neck, and jump from something into something.

It's fair to point out that not everyone works a 9 to 5 job. I used to work a job that would occasionally give me a day or two off during the week, so it could be the same with these guys (or they work a night shift, etc.). But yeah, it's pretty damn frustrating to have to compete for beer with people that have that sort of time to devote towards chasing it down multiple times (when you can't even grab a bottle).
Have you checked out the BAMCC thread? There's a photo in there somewhere of about 4 or 5 dudes just standing in the middle of an aisle, looking at their phones, waiting for whenever the beer got there. People will literally just camp out and wait until they are guaranteed to get a bottle.

I'm losing my respect for these breweries, but knowing the market here in Chicago, breweries can get away with it to some extent.

When I first saw this (and also 18th's party) I laughed at the price. Actually laughed.

Go into any Binny's on 'beer X carried by distributor Y delivery day' and watch for these individuals in the wild milling about in the aisles checking the warehouse doors every 30 seconds while pretending to browse shelf beer for the 10th time and/or watch for these (not) rare creatures in their habitat standing by the warehouse doors eagerly awaiting ZOMG RAR BEER LIMIT ONE bottles to come out at any moment. You'll know em when you see em.

Honestly, I don't get super close tabs on PF. It's not super scarce, but the only time I want a specific beer is when it's impossible to find (I wanted Gillian when it first hit this year, couldn't find it anywhere, and now have been seeing it everywhere, since I lost my desire for it). Plus I made the trip over to this place specifically for the beer (I'd struck out elsewhere), so I was like, "F it, I'll just buy the other bomber too." Managed to pick a bottle I'd already had (and forgot about), to add to the salt. The farther I was from the store, the more irritated I was with them and myself.

And yes, it's in the South Loop. I'm more or less boycotting it now, because I'm not wasting the effort on going over there, only to find that whatever I want is arbitrarily only available as a 2 for 1.

Funny you mention it. I pretty much had the same reaction when I saw the ticket price. I'm sure I'd enjoy the food and drink, but the price is just too damn much for me. And the instagram/twitter cred just wouldn't offset the actual cost enough.

This is why I'm willing to be Sarah Mart'ed by Spiteful. Incidentally just like a Sarah Mart I will be going out of my way to avoid them in the future. Seems like a sheepish comment but a big factor in my buying decisions comes down to my opinion of the brewery and subconsciously the Marketing behind them. They lost a lot of credit in my book and the money I spend on the 2 to 3 6 packs of Spiteful IPA a month will be spent elsewhere because of this move.

    See you all Saturday!

Well, less than an hour from the Session A event and there appears to still be tickets available for both sessions. I suppose the majority of the community has concluded that this is not "Goddamn" worth it. I wonder what Spiteful will do with the remaining bottles since it was stated that none will be available outside of this event.
